Some work in progress 3D environments for the imminent @thedoorinquestion no. 2
Combining 3D scans from regional vic purposefully captured for DiQ 1 in 2021, and other material from my polycam archive - all sorts of urban detritus from across melbourne.
In the first iteration we created four virtual environments that mirrored places from the DiQ 360 film, this time around we are creating a large-scale mixed reality installation in the voluminous city-west mall in Footscray.
The immersive theatre production will be at Sleepless Footscray Festival this May.

From the 20th - 31st of May, drop by Dark Horse Experiment to explore Lucian Rodriguez Lovell’s interactive new media piece: Check Self Out.
Check Self Out is a critical simulation of a supermarket self-checkout that checks you out, while you check yourself out. The project responds to the emergence of dark supermarkets, the creep of militaristic intense surveillance in commercial non-spaces, and questions who these systems privilege. Critically interrogating the relationship between the sensing system and the interacting body, Lucian explores the ways in which we expose ourselves to surveillance technologies with exhibitionist desire, the “lore-ification” of the self. What does my face say about me? How do racial markers show up in machine learning models? How am I flattened into an average, neat, predictable, data doppelgänger?

Lucian Rodriguez Lovell is a Filipino-Australian new media artist, game designer, and academic based in Naarm. Working critically with 3D materials, sensors, game worlds, and machine learning, Rodriguez Lovell works with technics in order to hate them better, playfully subverting interfaces as a form of resistance. His work speculatively explores computing futures, virtual bodies, and racial markers in artificial intelligence.

Introducing our next new media artist: Lucian Rodriguez Lovell who will be presenting ‘Meat Memory / Memory Dump’, a real-time 3D simulation.
‘In a dumping ground for human slop, a pack of not-quite humanoid avatars mechanically teach themselves to walk. In a brutal cycle of reward, punishment, battering, and drowning, they scramble for purchase in the uncertain soup. Meanwhile, something alien watches from afar.’

Silly Walk World at @altarspace.info for Net Gala.
In the future ruins of a smart city, contorted humanoid avatars perform spectacular silly walks to a discerning gait recognition system. Scrambling across the extracted waste, the city’s denizens seek refuge in subterranean dead malls and warehouses.
A massive thanks to all my collaborators on the project, it was a complete joy to work with you on this for the last few months and see the world and walks emerge. @roryyoungartist @myglip @geoffreygeoffreygeoffrey @mick.krek 💖
Thanks to @cynetic__ @h34ven0n34rth_ for having me ✨
The work will be on show this Friday for Respite @fozza.presents and 🤞acmi March

Presenting the artists shaping our first transmission through interactive sensory experiences. Connect and immerse in audiovisual work, video install and art game.
Next Saturday, Oct.11 @ Flowerclub.
ARTS [A-Z]
[ Cynetic @cy.netic ]
Cynetic creates through collaborating with events and artists to design for social impact, building conceptual ideas and spaces through bespoke solutions. The work is based from values that include breaking down boundaries and barriers, returning care to the community through a cultivation of space. Cynetic does this through creating synesthesia, reminding people of a collective consciousness they share with others through senses.
Working with mixed media, installation and video synthesis, Cynetic is able to elevate experiences of music and harmony taking inspiration from underground culture.
[ Fortuna @fortunahsu ]
Fortuna is a filmmaker and art practitioner who explores themes of identity, memory and human connection, primarily with moving image and analog film.
Working fluidly across mediums, Fortuna blends color, texture, and storytelling to shape a distinct artistic vision. With experiences collaborating with international brands and news outlets, her current focus turns inward, towards community through writing, video art, and curated immersive experiences.
[ Lucian Rodriguez Lovell @r.luvell ]
Lucian Rodriguez Lovell is a Filipino-Australian new media artist, game designer, and academic based in Naarm. Working critically with 3D materials, sensors, game worlds, and machine learning, Rodriguez Lovell uncovers the problems embedded within technics by engaging with and subverting them. His work playfully explores transparent interfaces, glitches, altered perception, and virtual realities.
