It's been over a week since Music.Art.Ppl's 10 Year Anniversary Celebration and I've been delaying making this post because I've struggled to put into words how I feel. I've taken the time to reflect on why I'm so passionate about what we do as a collective.
A bit of context, growing up, music has always been a part of my life. My parents loved listening to English & Arabic Classic and Modern music. Mainly Egyptian music though. Egyptian music is known for it's harmonies, dynamic sound and deep lyrics.
I alway felt inclined to share music that I loved. I felt that music is meant to be experienced with everyone who is curious to explore it with me.
In my teenage years I explored all genres of music. I was curious to hear how sound had evolved around the world, over the decades!
Fast forward to my second year of university. I found myself curating playlists at parties. A few months later, I bought my first DJ mixer. A few weekly later I was DJing my first House Party. Then I start hosting my own events in 3rd year university.
One memorable event I hosted back then was a music event which invited people to bring Hula-hoops to the jam. That segues us to the experience part of events.
Fast forward to the end of 2014, when I moved to Ottawa. I wanted to continue hosting events. With interesting synchronicity, I found myself in a meeting with Nick and Jordan chatting about what inspires us when we go out. Nick and I already knew each other from the festival scene, which was a big inspiration for the 2 of us. Canada's festival scene is rich in arts!
In the meeting with Nick and Jordan we all agreed that what we wanted to experience more of were social gatherings that integrated a combination of music and arts in an uplifting community setting.
Hence Music.Art.Ppl was born. Over the last 10 Years we've kept true to that initial vision. Bringing people together in immersive animated spaces with live art at the core.
Thank you to all those who supported us and collaborated with us over the years: The Artists, The Dancers, The Venue Owners, The Staff, The Funding Organizations.. Music.Art.Ppl's essence is in the collective. We wouldn't exist without y'all 💖
