Lets go back to the beginning of this creative journey.. the very beginning.

I (Warren van den Hoef) was in grade 9, probably around 2010/2011 - and I had just heard Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites by Skrillex (a piece of music that would change my entire world forever).

This was the first time I had heard electronic music, and as someone who grew up playing guitar to bands like Metallica - this immediately struck a chord of inspiration. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before, and it was incredibly captivating. Music that defied the traditional methods the world was accustomed to (or at least I thought that at the time).

So what does anyone with a strong work-ethic, a fiery passion and a drive to be successful do? I learned everything I possibly could about this industry.

I learnt how to produce electronic music, I learnt how to DJ and above all, I learnt DISCIPLINE to teach myself a skill(s) that I was passionate about. This Discipline would carry me forward in all aspects of my life (and still does).

Well over a decade later, I find myself with knowledge about the industry that only someone who has invested an incredible amount of time pursuing a career in, would know. I find myself with a catalog of music spanning many genres and sub-genres (not only in electronic music). I find myself with accreditations as a recording, mix and/or mastering engineer for artists across the world with some of those projects making it to impressive labels. I find myself with students, eager to be inspired and learn from my experiences in this industry. Ultimately, I find myself as an individual relentlessly pursuing creativity in any industry/profession that intrigues me.

In short - music was my beginning, but it certainly isn't my end (at least not entirely).

As the years went on, I discovered music wasn't the only thing that drove me. In reality it was just being creative, it was making something out of thin air.. it was pandoras box of creativity. Once it was opened in my life, there was no closing it. So I learnt new professions (photo, video, graphics, web) to accompany my music AND help my future clients.

Recently, Generation Media Group has been more involved in the industry that sparked our love for creativity.. Electronic Music.

You might have seen us taking media content in some of Ottawa's well-known music venues (most specifically @city_atnight) or you may have even been featured in our recap highlights from electronic events/festivals over the summer (if this is you: thanks for absolutely killing it on the dance floor and the Dj's for guiding the movement).

Although this is a small part of the work we do here in Ottawa, it's one of the parts that mean the most to us. We feel fortunate that we're in a position to help grow this wonderful industry here at home.

That being said, our media production stretches far outside the realm of music. We've represented models and actresses in talent competitions, produced travel documentaries, built websites for clients in the United States and Canada, delivered effective real estate content to agents, and designed countless logos/graphic art material for the branding of Canadian businesses. We even photographed, filmed and set-up the sound/lighting for countless weddings here in Ottawa/Toronto.

We aren't saying we are the best.. or the only company you should consider for your creative media and digital marketing requirements - but we can confidently say you wont find a company that's more passionate about creative media, and one that not only delivers on their promise, but also inspires your business as we work alongside you.

We established GMG in 2018 (originally Generation Sound in 2016) when we evolved from a Dj, Sound, Lighting, Music Production, & Audio Engineering company into what it is today - incorporating Website Design/Development, Photography, Videography, and Graphic Design to our growing list of services.

GMG is owned and directed by Warren van den Hoef (@warrenvdhoef / @warfysworld) but works closely with industry specialists to deliver remarkable content and brand management support to local Ottawa artists and businesses.

DJ / Producer / Remixer
Accomplished Canadian DJ & producer, Martin Villeneuve aka MV / Envy has put together an impressive track record over the span of his career. He has released numerous productions on industry heavyweights such as Unity (CAN), PinkStar Black (SUI), Hotfingers (Italy), Beat Therapy (CAN), No Definition (EU), Vudu (UK), Housesession (GER), Jungle Funk (CAN), Yoshitoshi (USA), SAW (USA), Pornostar (HUN) and countless others. 

His music has appeared on numerous compilations around the world and has been featured by international brands such as Armani, Hed Kandi, Ultra, Bacardi, Global Underground, Pacha,
Privilege, Tranceport, Heineken and Tuborg. His productions have received support from such notables as Pete Tong, Danny Tenaglia, UMEK, Deep Dish (Sharam & Dubfire),
Manuel De La Mare, Crazibiza, John Digweed, Roger S., DJ Vibe, Steve Lawler, EDX and numerous others.  His music regularly charts on all the major music sites. In 2006, his rework of the Styx classic “Mr. Roboto” reached the #1 spot overall on Beatport and 40 of his releases have made their way in Beatport’s top 100. Furthermore, he shared mixing duties with Behrouz on Yoshitoshi’s 2XCD compilation ‘In House We Trust vol.2’ (2002) and with Sultan for Montreal’s legendary White Party compilation 2XCD “White is Pure vol. 5” (2006).
In addition, Martin has toured extensively during his career, traveling to over 20 countries with stops in L.A., Tokyo, Prague, Tel Aviv, Skopje, Las Vegas, Budapest, New York, Jakarta, Toronto, Athens, Bucharest, Washington, Montréal, Buenos Aires, Atlanta, Singapore, Miami and more. 

Between 2006 and 2009, he owned and operated Heaven Nightclub in Ottawa, Canada. In January 2012, leading British music platform Trackitdown.net named Martin “one of the most
exciting producers of the last 12 months.” His past residencies include Stereo, Circus, and New City Gas in Montreal, each recognized among DJ Mag’s Top 100 Clubs in the World.

2025 RECAP REEL

I'm very grateful for the support shown to @whiterabbitottawa from Ottawa's underground dance community this year. I am blessed more than I can say in words.
