OW15 ØLUB - Tegha

With Tegha, ØLUB flows into this world with force and restraint. The duo of 5RVZ and Medlock lands on Omen Wapta with a masterclass in weight distribution.

The seven-staged tour de force serves up a full panoptic view of the spectrum in between weightlessness and infinite mass. As befits a release by two UK natives, everything springs from the low end. A project constructed laterally and from the ground up, every track here spends significant time rolling out and sculpting the low end. The gut-lurching kicks of ‘Spill Form’ play tag with ‘N’han’s fractured syncopation. From time to time the bass pressure mounts to dizzying proportions, yet never does it risk toppling a composition.

On the opposite end, a lack of mass is reflected in reverb’s essence as a remnant of volume. It drifts in on the pensive opener ‘Eardrom’, permeates the record with various lengths of decay, and retreats gracefully after the frantic minimalism of ‘Halakka’. Its most poignant elements skip across the surface, rephrasing your trance with every bar. This lightweight complexity peaks on ‘Motion’, anchoring down the fleetingness of a feeling through pristine sound art.

Tegha deliberately garbles and muddles most natural sample sources beyond direct meaning. It rubs your brain cells together, igniting primal and intricate cognitive processes simultaneously. It thrives both on intuition and on thorough dissection. It manages to build intrigue as its trajectory oscillates. ØLUB catch the UK hardcore continuum’s meltwater and channel it into laminar flow.

OW14 Hitam - Vesturgata Gaze

On ‘Vesturgata Gaze’, Hitam traverses a new biome. Geographically and metaphorically. Through this introductory release on Omen Wapta, a remarkable voice in techno lunges into artistic deliverance.

Here we, the listeners, find ourselves with an EP that harbours immense emotive voltage. A perspective-pivoting trip unmistakably lies at the root of the soundwaves crashing into our eardrums. Tectonic shifts reshuffle subterranean frequencies on ‘Gomlutun Ruins’. On ‘Djedd Pillars’, we humbly stand witness as ceremonial incantations demarcate indigenous land. ‘Keadaan Aliran’ sweeps us up into century-old rhythmic phrases that strike as if descending from periods of persistent rainfall. The reverb of a cavernous space deregulating your perception of balance, is a sensation that crawls all over ‘Vesturgata Gaze’ and ‘Ningishzida’. In elusive ways, this record assigns a bardic function to mostly nonverbal music. The archives stand tall both as fact and as fiction.

All five tracks consistently bring forward traces of such life-affirming events. Large and small, old and new, funneled into one inertia-transcending project after a thorough exploration of Iceland. Geological features are resculpted into sound in grand fashion, but thanks to creative mixing choices, subtlety and surprise always run the gamut. It allows Hitam to carefully document the many undercurrents of experience and cultivate them through the magical power of peer-to-peer creative dialogue. Showing that commitment and intimate collaboration, taking on bold artistic ventures, touching moss and glaciers – that’s what can break the mould.

Thanks to all who supported Omen Wapta and for believing in our vision. Eternal gratitude to you all! And of course a special thanks to all artists who shaped and created the Wapta ethos. Without you, the label is not where it stands today. And I’m so lucky to work with so many talented people.

Eyes peeled, there will be more music and other visual expressions coming in ‘26.

Wish you all the best and see you next year.

Best wishes

Swiss psychiatrist Carl Jung believed that symbols reveal what words cannot. These symbols speak through the collective unconscious – an idea that echoes through Omen Wapta.

Woody's (@woodyninetytwo) medieval shapes, recurring circles, and instinctive pull toward certain textures function like archetypes, guiding Tharim Cornelisse (@tharimcornelisse) in creating the visual world and his blood brother Floid (@floid.live) in sonic translation – all without words.

Think about it: No cues, no references. Just pure interpretation, one mind to another. What one could hear, the other could see, and vice versa
