Destroyed Cinema and OFF-OFF-VIFF are proud to present In the Glow of Darkness, the second theatrical release from Destroyed. Two screenings only - Victoria and Vancouver! Director Tucker Bennett in attendance for a Q&A.

Intersecting stories unfold in the cyberpunk city of San Zokyo, where a young hacker takes on the corporation behind Meme, a drug that mines users’ psyches to deliver personalized psychedelic trips and hyper-targeted ads. Moving between paranoia, satire, and something more disorienting, the film taps into the logic of the feed and pushes it somewhere stranger.

Bennett comes out of the San Francisco Art Institute, where he studied under George Kuchar. His earlier films, including Why Are You Weird? and Planet Heaven, track a distinct DIY sensibility shaped by internet culture, performance, and low-budget experimentation.

In the Glow of Darkness is his fifth feature and his most expansive work to date.

Far away from the modern world, in the ruins of a remote castle, a self-styled ‘King’ and his loyal ‘Servant’ perform an absurd daily cycle of pomp, ceremony, and escalating cruelty. Their isolated kingdom is thrown into chaos when the King dreams of a Queen and orders the Servant to build her from the wood of a fallen tree. With the introduction of the ‘Queen’, devotion and paranoia collide: the Servant falls hopelessly in love, while the King grows increasingly cruel and unstable. What follows is a darkly comic spiral of rivalry, liberation, and megalomania, as two clashing visions of masculinity battle for control over a kingdom built of nothing.

On March 8th, 2026, Destroyed has teamed with Teflon Spine, OFF VIFF and Take Your Time Back to bring our co-founder’s JP Meldrum’s (and John Ledingham) film “In the Land of Fish and Honey” - a no-budget, ultra-PNW, horror-comedy by way of Don Dohler, Tsai Ming-Liang, and Motern Media about a silent man desperately seeking fish and honey with help of affable strangers - to Vancouver.

In the spirit of vernacular creativity and outsider expressionism, we’ve got two Vancouver noise artists on the bill: Fide and _hollowskull_, alongside the debut of JP’s own loose ambient-free-jazz collective Healslime.

March 8th, 2026. The show is 19+ and 15$ (or PWYC at the door). Doors are at 5:30, Movie at 6, a short Q&A w/John and JP, then bands shortly thereafter. The show ends at 10pm.

It is part of our utopian art dream that cinema can become like underground music wherein all it takes is a camera, some friends, a little venue, some elbow grease, and a dream to be seen - movies don’t need institutional haranguing, benefactors, expensive festival submissions, industry insider nonsense, and meddling distributors to be real! We’ve had enough The Avengers, and not enough Fugazis in our cinemascape.

Thank you to everyone involved for helping us experiment in making that vision a reality.

We’re pleased to announce a weeklong qualifying* theatrical run of French Lessons, the latest film from STUPID CO, the artistic label from filmmaker/distributor duo Anna Maguire & Kyle Greenberg, who also organize the OFF-VIFF film festival. This run follows a 2025 festival campaign with the likes of New/Next, The Downtown Festival, SXSW Sydney, OFF-VIFF and more.

The hybrid-documentary short follows Greenberg who fittingly plays a film distributor, secretly meeting with real-life director @arranshearing  (co-director of King Baby and co-founder of OFF-VIFF) to practice French ahead of going to the Cannes Film Festival. A satirical take on the industry vs. artistry divide, the weeklong theatrical announcement advances Stupid Co’s commitment to non-traditional releasing, with Greenberg & Maguire saying in a joint statement:

"As we work to circumvent the archaic pitfalls and/or gatekeepers of the independent film landscape and combat the perceived limitations of short films in the marketplace, this weeklong run of French Lessons and partnership with the EV Vodville Cinema is an exciting step forward to find another new and rare physical pathway for short exhibition. By finding a new physical space to exhibit our short for a week in Vancouver, we feel more than ‘qualified’ to ask for your consideration! Looking further ahead, we can’t wait to expand upon our festival OFF-VIFF, by working with EV Vodville to provide another key satellite location for short exhibition as well!”

The pair’s film Hi! You Are Currently Being Recorded is also playing this week as a double bill.

*The weeklong theatrical run of French Lessons is not actually a qualifying Academy run, nor is EV Vodville considered a real theater, nor is Vancouver considered a qualifying theatrical market as it pertains to the Academy, despite much of Hollywood shooting their studio films in Canada, British Columbia and Vancouver (and Academy winners or nominees such as Juno, Titanic, Five Easy Pieces, The Accused, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, First Blood, Godzilla (2014) and many more shot fully or partially in the city).
