Gavinโs art practice drifts between motion graphics, new media, and illustration. He is currently completing his BA (Hons) in Fine Art at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, following a diploma in Motion Graphics from Nanyang Polytechnic. His projects for MTV Asia and Light to Night Singaporeโthe latter earning a Crowbar Award Finalist nodโhint at his ability to move fluidly between commissioned work and a more reflective personal practice.
What draws us to Gavinโs work is the way he threads small narratives through the machinery of the late-capitalist urbanity governed by techno feudalism, revealing its anxieties with a distinctly local sensitivity. His images often feel like brief apertures into an elsewhere, even when that elsewhere lies just behind the familiar.
From September 2025 to September 2026, Gavin will be with us in the studio, in the field, and in the conversations that form the spine of Vertsubโs practice.

A Mural at Bedok and Bishan National Library
This has been a truly meaningful journey. @xiin.studio and I are incredibly grateful to have been a part of this project, commissioned by @nlbsingapore and organised by @nafa_spu
This was a shared process, from the first sketch to the final brush stroke. One of the best parts was painting alongside the residents from Bedok and Bishan during our weekend workshops seeing everyone come together to contribute.
Thank you to Yu Xiang from NLB for the coordination, and to the teams at Bedok and Bishan Library for the incredible hospitality. To the Bishan team, thank you for the warmth and for always making us feel welcomed. It really felt like a second home during those long painting sessions.ย
Thank you to NAFA SPU team for the trust and continued support throughout this project. Jessin and I learned so much through this process.
And of course, a huge shoutout to every volunteer who picked up a brush to help us bring this to life:
@abx_drawing, @_.thereal.dil_ , @soupdestroyer1111 , @justb3anz , @zhojj , @pplanet.ray
As well as the NAFA Student Volunteers (@nafa_sg), even though we didnโt catch their handles your contribution is all over these walls!
While we spent hours painting, most of the hours was spend on the conversations and the stories shared with everyone, from the young ones to older generation who dropped by, truthfully that is what brought this mural to life. To us, thatโs what public art is all about.
Onto the next one! ๐

๐๐ป๐ผ๐ ๐๐น๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ reflects the NAFA Talent Development Programmeโs commitment to learning through real-world practice, mentorship and collaboration.
Through NTDP, enrollees are given opportunities to work on live projects that bridge learning and professional experience. This exhibition brings together students, alumni and mentors in a shared process of development, where ideas are shaped through guidance, dialogue and hands-on making. The curatorial journey was guided by ๐ญ๐๐น๐ธ๐ต๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ๐ถ ๐ญ๐๐น๐ธ๐ถ๐ณ๐น๐ฒ๐ฒ @22ulki, NAFA alumnus and curatorial mentor, with installation support by Raihan Syahmi @raihansyahmi, NTDP alumnus, reinforcing the programmeโs emphasis on cross-generational learning and talent development.

Almost a month into my Paris residency at @citedesartsparis , my practice engages observation, movement, and documentation as forms of spatial inquiry. A golden doorknob at my studio first drew my attention, its Haussmannian bouton form reflecting historical influences distinct from those in Malaysia, triggered my attention toward overlooked urban details in the street especially the biomorphic elements embedded in doorknobs, knockers, metal grilles and faรงades.
Through dรฉrive-like walking across different arrondissements, I collect textures, patterns, and surfaces via scanning and on-site non-invasive texture imprint / casting.
I am drawn to bronze patina as a material index of time; subtle, often unnoticed, yet rich with variation and repetition. These fragments accumulate into an informal urban archive, mapping the cityโs layered histories.
This material is translated into stacked, casted modular sculptures, where processes of repetition, translation, and reconfiguration negotiate memory, materiality, and the visual language of Paris.
Still in the middle of it and I'm still exploring.
Thank you UOB @uobgroup ,Nanyang Academy of Fine Art Singapore @nafa_sg @nafa_spu and Citรฉ Internationale des Arts @citedesartsparis for the opportunity. More coming soon.

Presented as a one-player arcade game, the work reframes the arcade as a solitary, introspective space. Set in a retro futuristic cosmos inspired by the Andromeda galaxy, players navigate fragmented memories in search of comfort, recognition, and selfhood, where play becomes a quiet act of coping and rebuilding identity.
Explore connection through play, memory and identity at NAFA Campus 1โs glass display along Bencoolen Street till 5 April 2026.

Constructed from kapur wood and upcycled climbing ropes, ๐๐ฃ ๐ฝ๐๐ก๐๐ฎ draws from the language of rock climbing, where trust and support are essential. Retired ropes, once relied upon for safety, are woven into a functional form, becoming a quiet metaphor for relationships shaped by strain, endurance, and renewal.
Connection remains complex, intentional, and vulnerable, felt more often than fully understood. Like knots shaped by tension and touch, these ties persist through effort and care, reminding us that strain is not forever and that we are never truly alone.

Artist Talk
28 Jan 2026, Wed 7pm to 9pm
๐ Sculpture 2052
About the Talk
The First Wave of the Open City examines how classical art formsโsuch as sculpture, drawing, and archival photographyโare recontextualised through digital innovation. The talk shares artistic perspectives developed through field-based research conducted in Singapore and Paris, framed by two guiding concepts: Roaming and Real Time.
These approaches reflect an open and responsive mode of research shaped by daily encounters, chance observations, and spontaneous interactions within urban environments. Through this process, unexpected narratives and new artistic forms emerge, offering alternative ways of understanding and engaging with the city.
