On Cambio Fluido, singer Joan Seiler opens the chorus with the words “queremos más” (“we want more”), singing in her native Spanish and sounding like sunshine breaking through the song’s thick haze. It’s a joyful message — a call for freedom — carried by a carefully arranged, irresistibly danceable production. It may be exactly the kind of heartfelt dance music we need right now: the kind that moves more than just our feet.

You might think of Grace Jones interpreting Astor Piazzolla, or Sade fronting Stereolab. But enough name-dropping — Cambio Fluido is, above all, another chapter in Jon Hood’s own distinct sonic universe. Which makes us all the more excited for the album’s release on February 20.
