Catia Lanfranchi aka Junge Eko is a touring musician and composer with a background in classical music and studies in voice, performance and composition. Her trademark is a distinctive tone in her voice and sounds, influenced through her upbringing with the organ. Connecting classical songwriting with experimental sound design, using refined sound resources and emotional highs.

hello @jungeeko – we are excited to announce the second artist who will be represented by Tattoo Agency: Junge Eko.

Junge Eko is the solo project of musician and composer Catia Lanfranchi. Known for various band projects such as @kushkkushkkushk as well as other collaborations, her first solo album, 'Selwi', was critically acclaimed and introduced Junge Eko to an international audience. Catia’s upbringing with the organ has shaped the distinctive tone of her voice, while her compositions challenge the organ's dreadful legacy through experimental songwriting and contemporary sound design. Catia recently returned from an artist residency in Berlin and is now focusing on recordings and text work for her upcoming album.

A last goodbye as a reminder that there is no last goodbye

her sudden passing hit me unexpectedly and sent me to a surreal place.
I expected the bottomless pain, I didn’t expect the shift in my grounds, the passing and what got passed on to me.
It made me fragile af, separating me from the world, disconnecting me, anxieties and insecurities I never before dealt with came up -
grief came with many faces.

It happend when I was in NYC, writing new music before everything changed. I changed. By way of detour I landed in Poschiavo, the only family home still existing. When I got there, I understood that this is the last place holding memories of my childhood with her.
There I wrote momentum music, processing to understand and feel close to her.
In hindsight I still took care of her, I felt she hasn’t expected it either, she could never talk about death, even though she was seriously ill many times.
She told me that not talking and thinking about her diseases made her defeat them.
I believed her, as I saw it several times.
It also made me sad that we couldn’t speak about it, but when she was gone, there was nothing unsaid in between.

From her I learned to honor my ancestors, to build things, to take care of myself and others, to treat myself well, self love and to appreciate the present and the precious time together.

I had the best friends family getting my back from all over the world -
I’m deeply grateful for your care, your thoughts, your letters and help ❤️‍🩹

Mit ihrer Musik gibt Catia Lanfranchi, die solo als Junge Eko auftritt, tief verborgene Teile von sich preis. Zwischen leisen Tönen und schweren Gitarrenriffs findet sie einen Raum, in dem sie zeigen darf, wie sie ist – roh, ehrlich, verletzlich. Das sei weder bewusst noch stark gesteuert, sondern einfach Teil dessen, was ihr Schaffen ausmache.

In der vierten und letzten Folge dieser Staffel sind wir mit Catia Lanfranchi quasi den Spuren auf der Spur: Wir haben mit Catia über Momente der Inspiration gesprochen – in denen es passiert, dass man verstaubte Orgelpfeifen in einem alten Tessiner Haus von der Wand nimmt und damit beginnt zu improvisieren, oder in denen man die Grillen aufnimmt, oder in denen der Schlagzeuger zum ersten Mal einen Song versucht auf der Gitarre zu spielen. Und warum diese rohen, fast schon ungelenken Momente eine Aura haben, die man später im Studio kaum imitieren kann. Catia erzählt uns auch, wann es sich lohnt, in den Fluss zu springen statt nochmals einen Take aufzunehmen.
