๐ฃ Your HIP HOP HEADLINERS!
๐๏ธ Bella BAHHS (Black Ancestors Here Healing Society) is a Chicago-based raptivist and revolutionary, nationally known for making sedition irresistible through her art, activism and advocacy for prison industrial complex abolition. Born and raised on Chicagoโs West Side, BAHHS was thrust into the national spotlight in 2015 when a video of her heartfelt performance at a local march for justice for Laquan McDonald, a teenager killed by Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke, went viral. In 2016, BAHHS co-organized the #LetUsBreathe Collectiveโs Freedom Square Occupation โ a 45-day occupation of a Chicago โsecretโ police precinct, Homan Square, notorious for kidnapping, torturing and forcing confessions from Black men ๐. Freedom Square became a defacto civic leadership art camp for the North Lawndale community, where BAHHS co-directed daily programming for youth. In 2017, she joined the Open Society Foundation as a Soros Justice Fellow and organized the Sister Survivor Network (SSN) to uplift women and girls who survive carceral trauma ๐. BAHHS is a founding member of The Decarceration Collective (TDC) โ๏ธ and co-chair of the statewide Womenโs Justice โRedefining the Narrativeโ Task Force, working to drastically cut the womenโs prison population by 50% or more over the next seven years.
โข ๐ง Primo is a rapper and songwriter from the Eastside of Chicago whose roots in poetry give his music a raw, reflective edge. Blending honesty with sharp punchlines, he explores themes of love, loss, duality, and nostalgia โ creating hip-hop for listeners who still value radical honesty and authenticity. More than just background noise. ๐ถ
โข ๐ถ M.E.R.C initially thought to Make Every Rhyme Count from affirmation โ now itโs reality. The Chicago native is a 1 stop shop for individuality as an only child combined with running as MC for the South Side-based band LeftJones, as a solo artist, and a producer. His mission: creating surreal spaces of joy & community through song ๐ค consisting of storytelling, wordplay, and memorable instrumentation under the umbrella of the Black experience. Donโt forget those 3 dotsโฆ ๐
