Ala Younis (b.1974) is a Jordanian artist engaged in curatorial, film, and publishing projects. Younis often seeks instances where historical and political events collapse into personal ones. Her work also looks into how the archive’s lacunas manipulate the imagination. Among her notable projects are those focused on the history of architecture, looking at the roles of women in shaping public spaces, as well as questioning the impact of historical events on urban and social development. She is based in Abu Dhabi.

Younis’ works are in several major institutional collections, including: Barjeel Art Foundation, Dubai/Sharjah, UAE; Darat al Funun – The Khalid Shoman Foundation, Amman, Jordan; Jameel Art Collection, Dubai, UAE; Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman, Jordan; Le Frac Centre-Val de Loire, Orléans, France; Sharjah Art Foundation, Sharjah, UAE; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, USA; Uppsala Art Museum, Uppsala, Sweden.

I’m brain-deep in the preparation of this mid-career retrospective for @alayounis. It feels as if we are gardening in a wonderland of conceptual and narrative intersections, and the harvest will be on opening night. Join me on Tuesday, September 23, at 5 PM to discover.
