Those who stood closest to him in his formative years share intimate interviews, early photos, oddball humor, archival footage, music, and frenetic animations.
This documentary paints a portrait of Jason Molina’s birth through 1998 – Five years before the Magnolia Electric Co. album set indie rock on fire - including Jason’s siblings, and friends from early childhood, high school, and college, and early musical collaborators.

Billy Molina – Mr. Molina passed away just 2 days after pre-production began in 2021. He joins us through footage of Jason’s induction to the Lorain City Schools Hall of Fame induction video.
Jennifer Koury – And Jason met at Lorain High pre-school as 3 year old children and they remained friends for life.
Carl Raponi – Met Jason , age 5?, at Oberlin Day Camp. They re-met when J was buying his bullet bass at Ron Zehel guitar center.
Todd Jacops – Was with Carl that day. The three of them formed the metal band Chronic Insanity in Lorain, along with front man, Dave Williams
Mike McCartney – Influenced the metals heads to turn punk. Mike fronted The Spineriders with Jason on bass, Todd on guitar, and Carl on drums.
Geof Comings – An Oberlin townie, met Jason at the Feve in Oberlin. Geof was an early Songs: Ohio member (drummer) who played with Jason the longest.
Bruce Comings – Geof’s brother was an early Songs: Ohia collaborator and played guitar on the 1998 Tour.

Last year I worked on Black Rabbit, a limited series starring @judelawofficial @jasonbateman and @sallyamaka. @gretaedana & @vanalstkitchen & I were the food team, we made the menu for the restaurant & most every other food need. We set up the BR kitchen, the walk-in was a living thing full of actual produce, ingredients for the menu, not just a word salad to take up space & look pretty. The menu was broken down to each station, the mise en place was the same for each station, like a functioning kitchen. It was important that everything rang true, not necessarily to properly represent the industry or whatever people sat, but because, please, no bullshit. Stories land when they are authentic. The principles learned how to not cut themselves in scenes with brand new knives I bought from @jbprincecompany & #korin.

We are getting kicked out of our sweet Ridgewood home of years. This apartment got us through Covid. In fact, many of yousaw our apartment over Covid, when the sun room became a television studio for the weekly Lovecast.
