Lloyd Eyre-Morgan and Neil Ely made Departures with their own money. Working-class queer filmmakers from Manchester. No studio. No safety net.
The film follows Benji, played by Eyre-Morgan, who meets Jake at an airport. Two years of secret monthly trips to Amsterdam follow. A relationship Jake refuses to acknowledge outside those trips. The film starts at the breakup and works backwards, into the relationship and into the adolescence that made Benji who he is.
Russell T Davies called it “honest, raw, tough, wildly funny and powerfully heartfelt.” Russell Tovey called it “very beautiful and deeply moving.” Cast includes David Tag, Tyler Conti, Kimberly Hart-Simpson and Lorraine Stanley.
Now streaming on Apple TV, Now TV, Prime Video, YouTube Movies, BFI Player and Peccadillo Player.

“Somewhere between All of Us Strangers and Black Mirror, this quietly cosmic British gem is one of the year’s most unexpected love stories.”
Jordan is a 30-something and facing terminal cancer, but then he meets Danny. All seems well but there’s a catch; Danny swears it’s 2005, and he’s dying too.
Directed by Lloyd Eyre-Morgan and Neil Ely, featuring Siobhan Finneran and a raw, heartbreaking lead duo, Chatlines weaves queer romance, Northern grit, and time-bending tenderness into something that stays with you long after.

“A raw, wry & confrontingly honest look at the pleasures & pains of contemporary British gay life as it converges with low self-esteem & toxic masculinity.”
“Queer As Folk creator @russelltdavies63 has championed this bold & ambitious, fiercely independent feature, which lives in a similar world geographically, socially & tonally to his groundbreaking original series, first broadcast in the UK in 1999. “Who doesn’t love a 90s flashback?” Asks Departures’ Northern gay thirtysomething protagonist, Benji (Lloyd Eyre-Morgan, who also wrote & co-directed the film with frequent collaborator Neil Ely), at one point during his vulnerable yet propulsive voice over. He would probably get along well with Queer As Folk’s self-deprecating fellow Mancunian central character Vince Tyler, portrayed by Craig Kelly.”
“Departures itself, while feeling fresh & of-the-moment, certainly has a 90s indie vibe to it, recalling early work by Danny Boyle like Shallow Grave & Trainspotting stylistically, while the filmmakers forge their own distinctive appraoch.”
“Despite the heavy themes it deals with, Departures is an entertaining watch. Through the film’s dark humour & vivid characters, emerges a cathartic & ultimately hopeful tale of breaking through trauma.”

Northern. Working Class. Queer. 🎬
Departures proves yet again the power of Northern stories.
This went from a "breadline budget" to a national cinema release.
