My 5 highlights of @dunkfestival 2026 in chronological order (part 2):
5: @overheadthealbatross - That was the pinnacle moment of the festival for me; the familiar sounds from my most important album of 2024 carried me forward despite the exhaustion of the body; the Irish band’s eclectic post-rock that somehow feels like the most coherent artwork ever created, kicks different when it could be shared with others and the image of singing the final chant of “Paul Lynch” hand in hand with my friends is the one that I will carry on forever.
Also @weareloemusic showcasing their fantastic new album, @immanuelband with an even fresher one, @sklossduo making tons of noise for a duo and being simply speaking great guys, the originality of @las.3.marias , the lyricism of @hernameiscalla and the undoubted charm of anime intro-like @summerfadesawayofficial , should also be mentioned here.
As it is usually the case for me, the biggest concerts of the headliners were not necessarily for me: maybe besides @welostthesea ’s grandiose closure of the festival: a long set of legendary tracks played with the orchestral accompaniment in a torrent of lights was objectively great, but I was already overstimulated and too tired to enjoy it properly.
One thing will be mentioned in everyone’s summary of this edition of the festival: the comeback to the woods of Zottegem certainly felt like coming home. I am not going to complain about De Vooruit’s impressive venues or the beautiful city of Gent, but being on the farm, slightly isolated, with tons of great artists behaving like your pals, just eating mashed potatoes for a supper (hi, Ania!) and being ready to talk about anything, meeting with your friends who you’d been meeting for years, and the new ones you just have just learned, feeling carefree for a second: this means everything.

My 5 highlights of @dunkfestival 2026 in chronological order (part 1):
1: @pothamus - Quality-wise perhaps my favourite concert of this dunk!; the dark, enchanting psychedelia that often sounded as if the Belgians were in the middle of summoning something otherworldly to this plane, was not only atmospheric but also played in the perfect way: I had a feeling that every sound was thoroughly thought-through, especially in the quietest moments; of course, this demanded horrific sacrifices from the artists, like playing barefoot in 4 degrees Celsius.
2: @cisnienie - The Katowice-based noisy/jazzy/posty band is officially the 5th Polish band in the history of dunk! if I count it correctly; I had no doubt that this was going to be a gig people would talk about but was still surprised how many dunk-goers count it as a highlight of the festival; it’s partly cause you could see that the artists gave everything on the stage, but also had such a blast doing so.
3: @bloedband - I was hyped for this gig and it did not disappoint: the Soete siblings delivered their energetic and modern-sounding metal music that even made the clouds start to disappear; also, what a fantastic merch design, if anyone has a chance, they should grab Bled’s red droplet t-shirt for sure; and as I mentioned before, it’s very fitting that the bands that kept my and many’s blood pressure at the highest level this year were Blood (Bloed) and Pressure (Ciśnienie).
4: @kokomoband - I’m confused about the Germans’ concert: I was expecting a really well-spent hour with classic guitar post-rock and I received… an unbelievable experience with drony, atmospheric compositions that felt very, very heavy; like a perfect weight blanket made of pure sound; I checked the new album released during the festival just when I came back and it’s already one of my favourites this year.
