« The Boy and the Moth », 2024, CS Lab, Zokei University, Tokyo, Japan.
A joint collaborative exhibition between painter Katarina Head @kaaattii and photographer Anselme Alma Servain @alma.servain hosted at CS Lab @cslab_tokyozokei within Zokei University @tokyo_zokei_univ_official in Tokyo, Japan.
« The Boy and the Moth » dives deep into the two artists’ archives, showcasing a mutual understanding and appreciation for fluidity and intuition both in the creative process as well as in the final result. Photos from nature books were paired with reworked photos of Anselme to create new narratives as well as new meanings. Katarina created new paintings stemming from Anselme’s photos. The curation has been done jointly following the spirit of the artists’ care for playfulness and exploration.
The series deals with the depiction of human bodies turning into landscapes and vice versa, as well as the intricacies between nature and the human body.
Just like biologists, the artists sought to gather evidences of a fantasised world, to be showcased in their own unique natural science museum.
We would like to warmly thank CS Lab and Chisato, the translators Miyo @miyosally and Pardis @sukebanism as well as everyone who came to our exhibition and listened to our talk.
Tokyo, Japan, 2024.
