THE TAGLI
Contemporary gallery showcasing art from emerging and established artists.
Upcoming: Where the Land Meets the Sea, Afonso Rocha and Simon Linington

“When you grow up by the sea, you spend a good deal of time looking at the horizon. You wonder what on Earth the waves might bring and where the sea might deposit you; until one day you know you have lived between two places, the scene of arrival and the point of departure.” - Andrew O’Hagan
THE TAGLI Gallery is pleased to present Where the Land Meets the Sea, a duo exhibition bringing together the works of Simon Linington and Afonso Rocha. This exhibition proposes that the seafront is a psychological state of mind. The sea draws the eye to an infinite edge, the point beyond which representation gives way to feeling, to a certain kind of yearning. Rocha and Linington make visible how a place persists within you, continuing to shape and inform you, even as it evolves into something you no longer entirely recognise. What emerges is a sustained, unresolved dwelling in ambivalence, and an honest, ongoing dialogue to the experience of belonging in the present tense. @sofia_hallstrom_

“A defining feature of Piers Alsop’s recent paintings is the way in which the surfaces have been touched; touched with paint; touched with matter, touched with thought. This thought-as-touch happens on and against a jute-on-jute ground. Jute is not an impartial surface that receives paint. It inevitably leads to the paint becoming embedded into its fibres; paint sinks in and settles on top, but it never fully blankets the jute. Jute is that which lies under (hypokeimenon) but also that which ultimately persists, that which seemingly repels the paint it so readily catches in its weave. It becomes stained with pigment, enmeshed, as it’s dragged across the ground. @scott_mccracken_

Simon Linington
Heavy Water, 2026
Pigment in an acrylic vitrine
150 x 3.5 cm
59 x 1 3/8 in
“In their artistic practices, they are united in negotiating an ongoing, lingering question: what do you do when home is somewhere you have left, and belonging is something you can not quite locate anywhere?
This enquiry is quite literal in Linington’s work. An array of slender glass rods, each sealed and filled with pigments, mixed by Linington and inspired by the many different hues of sand found at Alum Bay on the Isle of Wight.” @sofia_hallstrom_

Nassim L’Ghoul uses 3D animation and sculpture to reimagine everyday observations and autobiographical experiences. L’Ghoul’s practice subverts common notions of objects and figures, working to detach material from classic iconographic interpretations. Objects assert an alternate autonomy in this world-building process of note-making and drafting. Figures are transformed into motifs, constantly breaking and building visual languages, entering into deeper, underlying dimensions. The computer plays a central role, where thoughts are translated into a visual language. L’Ghoul uses digital and conceptual tools to abstract personal experiences and interweave them with found material. By re-contextualising these fragments, hybrid environments are created that oscillate between the real and the imaginary.
