A birthday letter to Jean:

Y’kno, you didn’t expect to make it this far. In this time between now and then you:

•Had no clue what this life had in store for you up to this point.

•Grappled with your existence even at this young age.

•Learnt that true love and wisdom reveals itself through faith and the lived experience.

•Made great friends and also lost a few great friends.

•Hurt some of the ones you love and trust, but also been hurt by some of the ones you love and trust.

Constantly grappling with the purpose of your gifts…the purpose of your life! Always thinking, “By this age I’ll have it all sorted out.” Well, you haven’t sorted everything out, but you’ve received everything you needed - a loving family, friends, the ability to love & support others and wisdom.

You were never able to please the perfectionist in you - which lead to not so great perceptions of yourself, but you were never meant to be perfect. You were made to live as an example for someone going through the struggles you’ve had to contend with throughout your life.

So be patient with yourself. Trust in God - the plot will only begin to thicken from here.
