@loomingcloud is a film about the collision between grief and the very thing you’re reading this on: social media. I wanted to explore mortality in the modern age and try to understand the ways in which platforms like Instagram have changed our relationship with death and with each other. I can’t wait to bring the film and whatever discussion it sparks to #Sundance.
The dream of Sundance is so intertwined with my dream of becoming a filmmaker that they feel almost synonymous. So many of my heroes first came to my attention through Sundance, and the films they premiered there are the very films that made me first want to make movies. So to see the iconic Sundance laurel in the trailer to my short film The Looming Cloud is an emotional and profound moment for me in this journey I’ve been on. And beyond the flurry of feelings it stirs up, from gratitude to disbelief to anxiety to pure joy, what I hold onto most is the same mantra that’s guided me here: keep learning, keep growing, and onward.
