@taichi.ishii1965
TAICHI ISHII is a Japanese performance and movement artist based in Narrm/Melbourne. Their practice explores trance, vulnerability, sensuality, and the shifting relationship between body and perception. Through improvisation, somatic exploration, and
sculptural physicality, they create performances that move between ritual, intimacy, and transformation.
Drawing influence from butoh, contemporary
performance, nightlife culture, and meditative states, Taichi approaches the body as both landscape and medium — a site where memory, instinct, softness, and tension coexist.

@ate_cheska_
TE BAJAO is a movement artist who slinks and writhes through dark sensuality, pain and mythology. They’ve dipped their toes and immersed in many spaces and practices that involve body and movement. Te’s practice is ever evolving and draws from life experiences and raw energy.

@alnerborce
ALNER BORCE is a dancer, performer and choreographer based in Naarm recognised for his distinctive presence and versatility. With a unique movement quality rooted from his diverse training in Jazz, Contemporary and different street styles, Alner demonstrates a spectacular edge to any stage he steps onto.
He has appeared on some of Australia’s most prominent stages including the Golden Plains Festival, the Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Mardi Gras, Midsumma Festival, Rod Laver Arena and the AFL Grand Final. His credits include Trixie Mattel, Kween Kong, Becca Hatch, Baker Boy, Tones and I and Snoop Dogg to name a few.

@ether_link
JOYCE LIU (they/she) is a Chinese-Australian artist based in Naarm, working mainly as a choreographer, performance artist, and movement director. Their movement explores ritualistic flow and creaturesque textures. Joyce’s work often leans into the surreal and incorporates technological elements to create world-building performances.

• Creative Development Residency Applications •

Over the past few months, one of the nicest parts of building Interconnect has been watching artists genuinely make a home in the space. What started as shorter residencies quickly became something more ongoing - people settling in, developing work deeply, collaborating, and becoming part of the day-to-day rhythm of the studio.

Our current year-long resident artists — Kayla Douglas, Inplay, Co Exist, and Damien Meredith — are all close friends of the space, and seeing how well this longer model has worked for both the artists and the wider community has made us want to continue growing it.

Alongside them, we’ve also had the pleasure of hosting shorter residencies with artists including Cora, Liat, Svet, Sam, Indi, Jack and Siobhan - with some still continuing to work from the space today.

We’re now opening applications for upcoming year-long residencies at Interconnect.

We especially encourage collectives and collaborative practices to apply, as sharing a residency can make the program more financially sustainable while also creating opportunities for collaboration, support, and community within the space.

We also understand that long-term creative space can feel financially out of reach for many artists. If the residency feels aligned with your practice but affordability is a barrier, please still apply. We’re very open to discussing shared residency models, collaborative arrangements, or skill exchanges where artists contribute to the space through their services, knowledge, or practice in different ways.

We know every practice works differently, so if you’re interested in a 6-month residency instead, please still reach out, depending on availability, this is something we may also be able to facilitate.

Applications are now open.

Interconnect is officially opening Expressions of Interest for Melbourne Fringe 2026 — our first year participating as a Fringe venue.

We’re opening up our warehouse space to artists, performers, collectives and creatives looking for a venue during Fringe. The space is flexible, industrial and suited to a wide range of works — from performances and installations to screenings, live music, workshops and experimental projects.

As a first-time Fringe venue, we’re excited to work with artists to create a program that feels collaborative, welcoming and ambitious. Whether you already have a finished work or just the beginning of an idea, we’d love to hear from you.

The venue includes flexible floor space, a fridge, easy access, and the option to open the roller door for fresh air and natural light.

EOIs are now closed. Artists registrations are closed for the Melbourne fringe. If you are a registered artist and don’t have a venue please send us and email and we can see if we can fit you into our season.

Wooden floor or Tarkett?

A little timelapse of us relaying the Tarkett 👀

We’re lucky to have built a space that can shift depending on what people need in it.

Adrien and I built this 18x12m sprung floor ourselves — every layer, every detail. A lot of time, research and trial went into making sure it feels safe for dancers and actually supports the work happening on it. And honestly, we’ve got dreams to keep expanding it even further.

Seeing it switch between Tarkett and wood is still a bit of a “we made this” moment for us.

Black Tarkett is also on the wish list 👀

We can remove the Tarkett when needed, though there is a fee for removal due to how heavy and time-intensive it is to take up and lay it back down. If you are interested get in touch 🤍

(The dogs always do a final test run afterward to make sure it’s safe for humans to dance on)
