Last night, our short film Aunque es de Noche, directed by @guillermo_galoe and co-written by the both of us, won the Goya for best short film.

This was my first visit to the Spanish Academy Awards ceremony and it couldn’t be more magical; besides of coming with a nominated film and then winning (!!), I came as part of the 5th addition of the Spanish Film Academy Residency program.An unbelievably privilege and supportive program that selects each year 20 filmmakers to develop a project in Madrid, and gives everything that is necessary for that (and much more).
So besides of sharing a strong and emotional moment with our beloved team of the short, that came to Valladolid from La Cañada, Paris, Barcelona and Madrid, I got to spend this night with my beautiful group of colleagues from the residency, that I truly cherish.

Two years ago, when my journey with Spain began, I couldn’t imagine that I will receive such a welcoming. This moment feels like a warm hug from the Spanish film community and I am so grateful.

I attended a women's incubator for a year for feature film. 8 female screenwriters and directors with films and words that should be heard

Institut Français X NFCT and Israel Film Fund.
In the framework of their partnership around the WomanFilms Narrative Hub for the development of feature-length narrative film scripts by Israeli women filmmakers, The French Institute, The New Fund for Cinema and TV (NFCT) and the Israel Film Fund have organized a special screening of the 2023 graduates’ previous works.
The program included 5 recent short films and 1 TV series episode and has been followed by a Q&A and discussion in the presence of the 8 female filmmakers and writers. Such a weird moment to celebrate anything, but perhaps now, it is most necessary to cherish the ability of doing cinema. I’m so happy to announce that AUNQUE ES DE NOCHE, the film I wrote together with Guillermo García López, is in the Short Film Competition of Cannes Film Festival Official Selection, nominated for the Palm d’Or!

Two years ago, Guillermo asked me to join him in writing a short film in La Cañada Real, the largest illegal settlement in Europe, just a few kilometers away from Madrid.

I had the pleasure to dive into Guillermo’s world getting to know the community and especially the kids of La Cañada that he was working with for the last several years in film workshops.

Once the writing was over I naturally continued accompanying Guillermo during the making of the film (as we are a couple of filmmakers) and I witnessed from very close the enormous efforts and hard work invested in order to find the magic in such a harsh reality, and managing to do so through cinema, made with so much passion and love. This film is a true and honest collaboration with the community of La Cañada, bringing to screen the light and beauty of this place despite the darkness.

I couldn’t be more proud of the film that came out of this process and this selection is such a well deserved reward to so many people that gave everything in order to make it happen.

Guillermo, thank you so much for taking me on this journey with you, and a huge congratulations to you and to the entire AUNQUE ES DE NOCHE family ♥️
