Jiu-jitsu creates strong bonds that go far beyond the mats, growing from training partners into lasting friendships and true brotherhood. When I started training, Larry was one of the first people I met. He always took the time to teach me techniques after thoroughly kicking my ass. Over the years, our friendship grew through training, surfing, hanging out with the boys, and barbecues.

On Sunday January 11th, 2026, Larry and his wife Annie were involved in a tragic motorcycle accident. Larry suffered a severe spinal injury and lost movement and feeling from the neck down. He underwent emergency surgery to fuse his C2–C5 vertebrae with rods and screws. Annie, thankfully, survived with only minor injuries.

Larry now faces a long road to recovery that will require extensive rehabilitation and ongoing support. The accident happened just one day before he was supposed to start a new job, adding unexpected financial stress. Rehab care is only covered for the first four months, and disability benefits come with a mandatory waiting period, leaving the family without critical support for several months. Annie is spending most of her time at the hospital, supporting Larry through every step of his recovery.
Any support—donations, visits, or prayers—is deeply appreciated as Larry and Annie navigate this incredibly difficult journey together.

Working on setting up our grips and pulling our opponent off balance. We want them leaning forward and our feet positioned at the Top of The Triangle! This gives us the best chance to attack in any direction!
