Happy Friday folks! We’re flashing way back to this shoot with the iconic Jack Nicholson, photographed by Carlos Serrao.
 
We only had an hour with Jack, so we set up a mini “studio” in a bungalow at the Beverly Hills Hotel, just down the hill from Jack’s house.

The only request from Jack’s team? Ashtrays on every flat surface so there was always a place for Jack’s cigar. Did they even allow smoking in the room? Who knows? Who cares? Probably not. But for Jack, you betcha.
 
My recollection is Jack arriving in seersucker pants and house slippers. He was exactly as you would expect…holding court, flirting with the ladies, quintessential charismatic Jack.
 
At one point I ask, “Can I get you anything from room service, Jack?” His response, in that wickedly Jack Torrance voice, “Yeah, hon. I’ll take some coffee with the heaviest cream they’ve got.”
You got it, you absolute legend.
 
So, I call room service.
 
I begin: “Hi, we’re in the Bungalow #_ _ with Mr Nicholson and he’d like coffee with———“
Room Service Guy interrupts and finishes my sentence: “——— the heaviest cream we’ve got. Yep. We’ll deliver it shortly.”
 
Best. Day. Ever.

Six weeks ago we started on a Nike project unlike any we’ve ever produced: The pre-production of the costume design and styling for a @NikeWomen event like no other.
 
“Goddess Awakened” was imagined and choreographed by @parrisgoebel and performed on July 5th in Paris. ParrisxParis.
 
Our US-based team worked for several weeks designing, creating, deconstructing, tailoring, and reconstructing these amazing looks before turning it over to our friends @shooteurope to bring it home.
 
Our crew from Portland, NYC, & LA worked tirelessly to make this rebirth of NikeWomen an event to remember.
 
Some of us went to Paris. Some of us didn’t. But every single person who touched this project in their own personal way had a hand in making it a gorgeous, emotional, and uplifting event that we’ll all never forget…

Many of you in the Portland photo community (and beyond) know our crew member and Kim’s nephew, the amazing Sir Steven Griffin @partyinginportland. While riding his bike home from a shoot last week, Steven was hit by a car that ran a stop sign. He’s going to be AOK, but currently has 2 broken ribs, a broken left elbow, and a broken right arm. Unfortunately, Steven won’t be able to work for a couple of months…our busiest time here in Portland.
