At the heart of our concert is Five Tudor Portraits, a work that is full of colour and character, yet all too rarely performed. Alongside it, we have the luminous Five Mystical Songs and Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1.

We are especially delighted to be joined by soloists Emily Gray and Gareth Brynmor John @gebjohn performing with the New London Orchestra under the direction of @willvann 🎶

It's just over two weeks until our performance of Ralph Vaughan Williams's Five Tudor Portraits.

We're loving these masterful settings of the poems of John Skelton (priest and tutor to Henry VIII) and we're looking forward to giving a rare performance @sloanechurch on Thursday 12 March.

The concert will also feature RVW's Five Mystical Songs and his Norfolk Rhapsody No. 1, played by the New London Orchestra.

Our soloists for the evening will be Emily Gray and @gebjohn directed by @willvann - critically acclaimed in his conducting of the music of Vaughan Williams.

Winner of the Kathleen Ferrier Award, baritone Gareth Brynmor John studied at Cambridge, the Royal Academy of Music where he won the Patrons’ Award, and the National Opera Studio where he was supported by the Royal Opera House.

He made his debut with Welsh National Opera singing Schaunard (La Bohème) in 2017 and has since returned for various roles including Papageno/ Die Zauberflöte, Masetto/Don Giovanni and Sharpless/Madama Butterfly.Recent and future engagements include Donner / Das Rheingold for Grimeborn Opera, Ishmeron / The Indian Queen with Opéra de Lille, Opera de Luxembourg and Antwerp Opera,Papageno for Wild Arts Opera and the English Clerk / Death in Venice for WNO.

Gareth works with some of the leading orchestras in Europe including Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, London Symphony Orchestra and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with repertoire including Elijah, Faure Requiem, St Matthew Passion, Messiah, Dream of Gerontius,Brahms Requiem, Vaughan Williams Mystical Songs and he has previously appeared as the featured soloist in the BBC television Christmas Eve broadcast of Carols from Kings.

Gareth is an acclaimed recitalist and performs regularly at leading venues and festivals including the Wigmore Hall, London Song and Oxford Lieder Festivals.

He recently released a disc of song entitled ‘The Children’s Hour’ for the Champs Hill label.
