Seit ihrem Entstehen 2020 ließen sich Focus Pocus von Bands wie NOVEMBRE, Kartet, Octurn und Amok Amor inspirieren. Das Instrumental-Quartett erforscht Verbindungen aus zeitgenössischer Musik, Jazz und Elektro und arbeitet mit Stilmitteln aus Street Art und Beat: samplen, loopen und collagieren. In einem minimalistischen Ansatz greifen die Musiker*innen auf Improvisationen, Loops, Texturen und fragmentierte Melodien aus ihrem gemeinsamen Repertoire zurück. Dabei wird jedes Element mit einer ansteckenden Freude an der Musik verschoben, in andere Richtungen gelenkt und bis ins Extrem manipuliert. Aus diesen spontanen Kompositionen entstehen frenetische, immer neue Sound-Bilder, die an Basquiat erinnern. Grenzenloser Sound wird zu spektralen Pausen, die Dringlichkeit des Spiels und das unerschütterliche Engagement der Musiker*innen dienen dabei der Klarheit der Aussage und der Brillanz des Ausdrucks.
