Announcing the second edition of DAST DAR DAST (Hand in Hand), a sonic archival project debuting May 7 at the Los Angeles Art Book Fair (@printedmatter_artbookfairs)

Conceived in 2024, DAST DAR DAST is the culmination of a multi-year inquiry into the preservation of radical sound from the folk traditions of Iran and Afghanistan. Supported by the Brooklyn Arts Council (@bkartscouncil), the project underwent a rigorous period of research before its initial launch at the 2025 LAABF. The collection features a series of radical folk songs gathered from disparate sources, ranging from deep-web digital repositories to recovered private archives.

The title, DAST DAR DAST (دست در دست), captures the conceptual core of the project. Translating from Farsi as “hand in hand,” the phrase is rooted in the physical architecture of solidarity. It draws directly from the folk traditions of collective dance, where the interlocking of hands transforms individual movement into a singular, defiant body.

First editions are sold out. Physical copies of the second edition will be available exclusively at the fair and select local stockists in NYC. Digital downloads can be purchased via our website or Bandcamp.

In light of everything the community is navigating right now, we wanted to move forward with our mixtape presentation at @svanyc as a way to check in and reconnect through music. Our dear @aleffinstitute will be calling in virtually to talk through the project’s vision, and @omjvinyls will be there in person to walk us through the making of Side A. Huge thanks to @sophia_tarin for making this space possible.

We’re excited to share that @filmforumnyc has offered our community a discount code for a powerful new documentary, opening on November 21st! As we celebrate a remarkable victory for grassroots activism in New York City, CUTTING THROUGH ROCKS feels especially timely. The film chronicles eight years in the life of Sara Shahverdi, a 37-year-old avid motorcyclist who becomes the first woman elected to the council of her rural Iranian village. Directed by Sarah Khaki and Mohammad Reza Eyni, it captures Shahverdi’s unwavering fight against entrenched patriarchy and economic systems that confine women to lives of marriage and dependence.

Check our stories soon for discount code instructions

❤️❤️ Debuting tonight at Printed Matter’s New York Art Book Fair ❤️❤️ We’re launching two special edition posters in collaboration with New York artist Owen Madigan (@owenmadigan). These works pay tribute to the artist’s grandfather, who worked in film before immigrating from Iran in the 1970s and later shifting to a career in medicine. Each poster combines scenes from various films that reflect that transition, with cinema serving as a lasting connection to his home country.

Signed and numbered by the artist, the posters will be available exclusively this weekend at booths A13 and A26.

Owen Madigan is a born and raised New York artist. His work spans the fields of photography, collage, and printmaking. His art is influenced by the city’s movement and ever-changing fleeting moments, including hip-hop, skateboarding, and graffiti. Transforming his artwork into zines or photo books is core to his practice.
