now available from Objektiv Press: how the sea meets the sky, the movement of our bodies. a book that spans 18 years of my own writing about my photographs, and includes both new and old never-before-published pictures.
Last April, @strandfotos and I sat on a bench in the east village and wondered what a book of my writing about photography could look like. And now, a little under a year later, here is the answer.
Only Nina could move so quickly and intentionally, so decisively while continuing to be open. I am grateful to her for editing this book, which was originally a Google Doc of writing I’ve kept since 2018, and bringing it into the world with such care and thoughtfulness.
You can order it now from Objektiv directly, and in a few days you can buy a copy in person from Arts and Letters or Printed Matter. Link in bio!!

@momaps1’s quinquennial takes its name from the umbrella term which was first adopted in 1898, when New York’s five boroughs were first incorporated as one city, and has since become synonymous with the larger region less poetically dubbed the tri-state area.
But “Greater New York” is of course also an ode to the artists working in and around New York who absorb its urban idiosyncrasies and reflect them back at us, making the city greater, weirder, and less sterile while they’re at it. This year’s edition, the sixth to be mounted since 2000, features 53 artists working in a laundry list of mediums (from painting to ventriloquism). To celebrate the opening of the survey, which is on view through August, we asked 22 of them to sound off on the state of New York’s art scene, the support systems they lean on, and the makers who paved the way for them.

Things We Say When We Teach
Neil Goldberg with Rabih Alameddine, Juliette Mapp, and Elle Pérez
Wednesday, April 29, 2026, 6:30PM
Skowhegan NYC
“It takes a lot of money to look this cheap.” This is a line by the one and only Dolly Parton that artist Neil Goldberg (@shecky2000) often uses when he teaches.
For this conversation at Skowhegan NYC, Neil brings together photographer Elle Pérez (@elleperex), choreographer Juliette Mapp (@julietteamapp), and writer Rabih Alameddine (@beirutiguy) to explore the references, metaphors, anecdotes, aphorisms, riffs, and bits they find themselves returning to in their teaching.
Together, we’ll reflect on humor, improvisation, vulnerability, self-reflection, and other ways of teaching and learning as an expressive, responsive exchange.
Our public programs are free and open to all.
Link in bio to RSVP.

Pedro Perez, 1950 to 2025. I took this photograph of my father in December two days before he passed. I love that he looks like a Bad Santa waiting for the grim reaper. As if he was in line at the DMV of death. It felt like that. He stared the abyss straight down and never flinched. He was the best. I love you dad. ♥️
