...A few months later, Lilu was killed in a hit-and-run accident. I nearly lost myself completely in the grief that followed. I wandered around like a wraith for months—not quite in this world, but not fully in the next either. And still, I had to interface with consensus reality from time to time.

The thing about intense grief—especially complicated grief—is that it does not ask for permission. It arrives unannounced, in its own time. One moment, you are standing in the aisle, absently contemplating peanut butter. The next, you are on your knees, weeping, as people step wide and try not to look.

In moments like these, I found myself wishing for something.

A grief garment.

Something that would hold me, signal to others—be gentle, and offer shelter from a world that felt too bright, too loud. I wished for it often, but I had no capacity then to make it. So again, my mind filed it away for later:

I really thought I needed more discipline.

Maybe more structure. Definitely more control.
Probably more precision.

I thought that’s what would finally make my body feel… right.

but I changed something else insteqd. I just started eating more.

not perfectly.
not aggressively or obsessively.
just… enough to actually match my output.

Within a week everything got quieter. This weird calm came over my body. A steadiness I have never known moved in. That feeling of bracing for something terrible blew away on the spring breeze.

I don’t think I realized how long I had been under-fueling and how this created a condition of anxiety that I came to believe was just part of my personality.

Reality begins to shift when the animal of our body is not in a perpetual state of lack. This feeling is new to me, and one that I am welcoming with open arms.

For all my dopamine seeking sweet pleasure junkies out there 🩵🧁

what if I told you that you actually *can* have your cake and eat it too?! What if total abstinence isn't the answer and it is, in fact, *ahem* ... education! What if learning how food works in your body gave you more freedom and not less? What if understanding nutrition allowed you to enjoy food more, not less?

I can't believe how much energy I used to expend worrying about food and feeling guilty or shameful about my choices; constantly fretting that whenever I ate something "bad" I was ensuring my own rejection from the cult of idealized beauty, acceptance, praise, and ultimately love and belonging. Learning how food actually works in my body and how to train to actually build muscle and not just exhaust myself has been one of the greatest giftsI have ever given myself. and when I started out I didn't even realize it would mean more pastries. hell yea, thanks education 🥹🩵🧁💪
