Are you curious in how people with disabilities can break into the acting scene?
Elizabeth Hay is an adult with #cerebralpalsy dedicated to amplifying the voices of underrepresented communities in media. An active member of New York’s casting community since 2017, she brings a unique perspective to her work.
As we raise awareness of #cerebralpalsy in March #cerebralpalsyawareness month, we’re also celebrating Elizabeth’s work.
We had fun catching up with Elizabeth who shared with us how she is making sure people with disabilities are seen and authentically represented in film and media. She also reveals details of an exciting new project – a film featuring a lead with cerebral palsy!

I'm beyond thrilled to be featured in the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center's latest spotlight! 🎬✨ As a casting professional with cerebral palsy, I'm dedicated to amplifying underrepresented voices in media and ensuring authentic representation. 💚
The timing couldn't be more special—this feature was released during National Cerebral Palsy Awareness Month, with yesterday marking National CP Awareness Day! ♿️💫 Grateful for the opportunity to share my journey and advocate for our vibrant community.

Danielle blew me away during our interview 😭she really understands disabled people.
We're HUMANS and exist in the world in every way.
I didn't have authentic disabled representation growing in the 90s and it SHOWS
Authentic disabled representation matters to ME as a disabled producer
Authentic disabled representation matters to so many disabled people in the community 😭
When we see disabled people represented in films we're creating inclusion and acceptance in the real world.
Disabled people in the "real world" need acceptance and compassion too
Wicked MATTERS
We deserve complex storylines
Nessa Rose's storyline from the musical "Wicked," has ALWAYS BEEN PRO/BLEMATIC because it's written from an abled bodied lens of "plot device," and "pity"
Disabled writers and producers need to help craft these stories to stay away from problematic "tropes." embedded in the literature
You need disabled professionals who understand the dynamics of disability rights, disability history, and disability justice shaping these critical narratives 💕
[VD: A video of Cesily Collette Taylor , a black disabled actor on the "green," carpet in her wheelchair giving a high five with green texts that reads the importance of authentic disabled representation Wicked with a video from an interview with ErinFounder of Claiming Disability with makeup and blonde curly hair next to a microphone and a picture of Cesily Collette Taylor in her wheelchair with Danielle Pretsfelder Demchick underneath, an able bodied woman with brown hair and makeup looking into the camera next to Wicked Accessibility Coordinator Chantelle Nassari, a black disabled woman with beautiful curly black hair]
