Had a whirlwind of a weekend!

Friday was the Front Porch Live gig I had been *deep* in preparation for recently. We were at MGM all day between line check, sound check, adjusting and attempting to perfect IEM mixes, fine tuning arrangements, and then the inevitable last minute changes to the set list. The band even learned a new song at sound check 😅 Even leading up to the show day, this was a huge assignment. We had many rehearsals and I charted out all the horn parts for all the different artists we were playing for. And adjusting charts sometimes in real time at rehearsal as arrangements changed/developed ✍️🥴

But once we got to the music, I found myself on a cloud that I haven’t left as I type this post. Performing with TI was crazy for me!!! Although I don’t know every lyric, I’ve always liked his songs and as an artist and human I have always respected and admired him. Certain artists carry a certain aura. He’s got that. Big Daddy Kane too! What a certified legend.

Had a whirlwind of a weekend!

Friday was the Front Porch Live gig I had been *deep* in preparation for recently. We were at MGM all day between line check, sound check, adjusting and attempting to perfect IEM mixes, fine tuning arrangements, and then the inevitable last minute changes to the set list. The band even learned a new song at sound check 😅 Even leading up to the show day, this was a huge assignment. We had many rehearsals and I charted out all the horn parts for all the different artists we were playing for. And adjusting charts sometimes in real time at rehearsal as arrangements changed/developed ✍️🥴

But once we got to the music, I found myself on a cloud that I haven’t left as I type this post. Performing with TI was crazy for me!!! Although I don’t know every lyric, I’ve always liked his songs and as an artist and human I have always respected and admired him. Certain artists carry a certain aura. He’s got that. Big Daddy Kane too! What a certified legend.

Also, June 4th I’ll be at the @mgmgrand in LAS VEGAS with the Front Porch crew and a whole different line up of featured artists!

The top of this year I prayed for and visualized newer connections and bigger opportunities. This is beyond what I imagined 🙏🏽

One of the things that brought me deeper into @colbertlateshow was when Colbert hired @jonbatiste and Stay Human to be the house band for The Late Show. I couldn’t believe it! I had met Jon at that point several times and met and played with @joesaylor at sessions circa 2010/11. @endeatheebassbae was one of THE cats on bass when I got to the city, working with everybody and always killing it. I was so hyped and fascinated that an underground jazz band from the trenches of the NY jazz scene had made it onto the late night television!

When @reallouiscato took over - same thing! I remember seeing him killing it on Upright at @zincbar. At first when he was playing guitar I was confused / is that the same guy? Come to find out he’s a multi-instrumentalist like myself! Even touring with Scofield on Drums!!! I hope to one day kill it on all the instruments like he does 😭🙏🏽

And then getting to know the rest of the band - having just recently met @louisfouche at @dcjazzfest and following @jonlampleymusic for years now. @negahpercussah you are a rock star and a shining light!!! 🇧🇷🤟🏽

I watched the entirety of “The Worst of The Late Show” and one of the golden nuggets was hearing the band really stretch during the commercial breaks. There’s also an interview of the entire band that’s really cool - finding out how each person got the gig and their journey on the show since.

Had a blast swingin with these fellas!! I love when you write a tune that makes people play a certain way. This tune always brings the grease outta folks 😂👌🏽

Wow!!! It’s not every day you have a cat sit in on your jazz gig with a talking drum! Thanks to our brother GABINO from BENIN for joining us last night and killing it. Tonight! @jogoprojectofficial returns to Jazz at Met Park in Arlington for a free outdoor show 5-7pm. Then will be running to @mr.henrys.dc to play with @the_musselman 8-11!

Tomorrow I’ll be back at @tinyvinylshop about 5-6:30pm, and late night I’ll be on the same block at @theunderlinedc bringing back the Speakeasy Jazz Jam!
