A few weeks ago at the @idac_expo Mumbai 2026, talking about the ROI of good interior design in workplaces, retail and hospitality with an esteemed panel of architects and design professionals.
We explored a really exciting shift happening in our industry right now: moving past the idea that lighting is just an electrical line item, and recognising it as a core driver of value. We talked about the magic that happens when lighting designers are trusted as early partners rather than late-stage problem solvers. When we collaborate from the conceptual stage, design is intentional, and actively lowers overall costs. It means a smarter layout with fewer fixtures, lower running bills, and a space that truly maximises the client's investment from day one.
It was a deeply fulfilling conversation that reminded me why I love doing what I do in the first place. Good design is not supposed to be a luxury or an afterthought. It is the very foundation of how we connect with spaces around us that we inhabit and experience.
Thank you @idac_expo @charishmalobo for inviting me to share my thoughts on behalf of @lidai_2020 .

“Each space is unique, and so is the light within it. My work begins with finding balance between the light we see and the light we feel.” — Eby Vincent Mathew
Eby established studioEVM in India in 2022, a practice that brings creativity and emotion into lighting design for architecture, exhibitions, and installations. His notable projects include India in Fashion at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Center, 25 Years of Sabyasachi, and Rahul Mishra’s Mumbai flagship.
We spoke to him about his approach to light, how he builds emotion and narrative through illumination, and the delicate balance between what we see and what we feel in a space.

Walk into Intimità Personale and it almost feels like you’ve stumbled into someone’s memory.
Narayan Sinha doesn’t just sculpt with metal—he works with stories. Bits of scrap, old machines, heavy bronze pieces—all things you’d never call delicate—somehow end up feeling deeply personal here.
Set inside the old Ice Factory at IFBE, the space adds to the feeling—raw, open, and quietly atmospheric.
Curated by Sumesh Sharma and presented by Iram Art Gallery, this show isn’t just about sculpture. It’s about remembering. About noticing. About the small, quiet conversations between object and space, between the work and you.

Principal Lighting Designer @ebyvm gives us a glimpse of the recently concluded Intimità Personale by Narayan Sinha at IFBE Mumbai.
“This one came in fast and we had very little time on the creative board with it but working with Narayan and bringing his vision to life has been so fulfilling for us. His vision is exemplary and his work speaks for itself. The mood was personal, nostalgic and deeply reflective, and that is exactly what we tried to cultivate with the lighting for his exhibition.”
