already a year of many firsts…
like this one. Working on our cook book with my loving dad was precious and worth all the sweat. All the while being supported and guided by the amazing and talented co-writers Yan Ting and Sun Li. From interviewing Chinese restaurant owners across the country, sharing our own family history of three generations restaurant owners, writing down recipes, weighing every single ingredient down to the gram instead of the usual “a little bit of this and little bit of that” and working along side the always supportive and passionate fiancé Jois who captured the craft in all the gorgeous photos. All thanks to that one coffee with Emma, I salute you for proposing this initiative and actually getting the opportunity and support from Miriam and Niqué (Nijgh Uitgeverij) to launch this book.
Words can’t express how important this book is to all those hard working Chinese families out there, who lived through language barriers and endless hours of work. All for a better living for generations to come - we hear you, see you and we thank you! 💓

I’m always talking about making cultural impact and staying relevant. Now it’s time for me to walk the talk, and what better moment than during Chinese New Year.

Next Tuesday, I’m hosting a panel conversation exploring what it means to move between cultures, and how growing up in the West has shaped our identities while staying connected to our heritage.
