"Shelter for a Ball of Dirt" out on Sep 1

histories
from my album Shelter for a Ball of Dirt
@n_tasch_a made this video back in autumn and I'm so happy to finally share it here. It's been such a great experience making this (my first) album, and releasing my music for the first time. Thank you everyone who's been listening. I'm so grateful to be surrounded by such amazing people who inspire and transform me (and my work) in unexpected and beautiful ways - I can only hope that I'm able do the same for you. X

Over the past year I've been working on my first solo album "Shelter for a Ball of Dirt"
- a diary of tracks that combines sounds ranging from field recordings to completely synthetic tones in the form of 12 songs. The songs on this album were written between 2022 and 2024. They are reflections on friendship, family, loss, loneliness, and longing. Shelter for a Ball of Dirt will be available for streaming on several platforms from September 1.
๐
I'm beyond excited, and nervous, to finally release this collection of songs into the wilderness of (for now) digital streaming platforms, and want to thank everyone who contributed in one way or another to making this album possible, be it as a source of inspiration, technical and creative support, or being my friend, lover, partner.
Thank you Ashley for the album cover, for the patience with which you (always) approach me and my decision-making-incapability - i couldn't wish for a better collaborator <3<3<3
Thank you Gary for working so hard, so meticulously on distilling the most powerful, faceted, genuine versions from my homemade tracks.
Thank you Max for pushing me to finally release my album, for your love, and your encouraging support during this process :)
(and thank you for your sincere words taschi, resi, roel, cati)

natascha and i have been writing & sending each other songs since june last year. a new song would always be a reply to / a reflection on the previous song we received from the other person. actually, i was feeling really stuck creatively (and personally, but same no?) and this has really helped me to slowly reenter a state of connectivity and flow. knowing that someone i care about will receive something i created and take the time to respond with something they create is just pure bliss, magic โจ
later in the year we began an extensive collective research into water โ the wet, as an endangered habitat, and metaphorical vehicle for exploration around themes such as isolation and paralysis, encounters and togetherness. in february we shared a transdisciplinary installation in berlin, in which these experiments flowed together for the first time. this animation was part of that installation.

She lost the ability to read in a filling station at the Rte de Thionville.
I experience the Sidenotes as a conversation with Ashley and Domenik, but also as a conversation with me, the reader. A context to the story. I see the story as a creative and embodied reply. A way for Joost to trick his words, to not hide behind the abstract โ the intellectual, but to stay close to the intimacy of observing other bodies, not instantly needing to know what they express. I think it is this โdetourโ that anchors the experience of the work and allows Joost to write about it with a great sensitivity and deep understanding.
De gloednieuwe voorstelling The Bench (by accident) gaat morgen in premiรจre op @springutrecht maar is helaas helemaal uitverkocht.
Toch een beetje dichterbij deze bijzondere makers komen? En lezen hoe Joost de afgelopen twee jaar naast hen stond. Dat kan op onze website.

๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ฅ๐๐ฒ๐ก๐จ+๐๐จ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ข๐ค๐ง๐๐ฎ๐ create performative encounters that interweave dance, poetry, music, graphic design, and scenography. Their collaboration has been nurtured by friendship since 2019.
They believe in performance as a prefigurative practiceโa political, intimate process of transforming and being transformed. More than a focus on specific thematics, their processes propose a way of being with the world that confronts harshness through vulnerability and playfulness.
Both graduated from the Dancer/Maker Bachelor's programme at ArtEZ University of the Arts in 2022, where they met. Born in Singapore (Ashley) and Germany (Domenik), they currently share a base in Amsterdam.
In their new project ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ก (๐๐ฒ ๐๐๐๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ), ashleyho+domeniknaue traverse interiors of lostness, loneliness, and yearning. In a world of FAST FAST FAST and BIGGER BIGGER, they find themselves disoriented and adrift. They want to feel closer. Theyโre going places, but where to?
Floating in indeterminate parts of an ocean, two voices call out, listening for response. They dance a long poem, between moments of meeting and not meeting.
๐ You are welcome to the work-in-progress sharing of The Bench (by accident) on Friday April 3rd, at 4pm. DM us to book your spot!
