Devolution turns 23 years today, and in true DIY fashion, we’re elated to be here - still standing, still printing, still independent, and still shouting about the alternative world we love and are so deeply embedded within. In a landscape where media changes by the minute, surviving this long without losing our identity is something we’re fiercely proud of. 🖤

This magazine has always been shaped by its community. Every issue of Devolution exists because its readers care, contributors give their all, advertisers believe in independent media and labels, PRs, festivals, and the alternative scene as a whole continue to open their doors to us. Devolution has never been a one way broadcast; it’s a collaboration, a conversation, a shared love letter to the culture we all belong to.

We never take any of this for granted. Here today - gone tomorrow? But the fact that we are able to keep creating, keep pushing, and keep contributing to our very own carved out corner of the media world is something we value deeply and certainly isn’t lost on us.

We’re so thankful and so grateful to continue the work that fulfils our passions, staying true to our roots, and to keep shining a light on the alternative music, fashion, art, lifestyle and culture that drives us.

“Yes, a lot of pain. We live in the middle of nowhere now. I was very much on my own. I felt very lonely. It was a very introspective time, and the best music comes out when you really face yourself head-on, look at all the past things that have happened, and write from that place.”
