Knee pain while skating is more common than people think 🛼💥
A lot of skaters develop pain around the inner knee or kneecap because skating puts repetitive stress on the knees while turning, carving, pumping, landing, and stabilizing. Over time, the knee can start compensating if the hips and glutes are not helping enough with stability.
One of the biggest causes:
👉 weak glutes + poor hip stability
When the glutes are not activating properly, the knee tends to collapse inward during skating movements. This can create extra stress on the inner knee structures and around the kneecap, especially during transitions, deep bends, manuals, bowls, stairs, or long sessions.
That’s why exercises like GLUTE BRIDGES and CLAMSHELLS are so important 👇
🛼 Glute Bridges
These help activate the glutes and posterior chain, which support hip extension and reduce unnecessary pressure on the knees. Strong glutes help absorb force better while skating.
🛼 Clamshells
These target the glute medius (side glutes), one of the most important muscles for knee alignment and single-leg stability. This helps prevent the knees from collapsing inward while skating.
✨ Beginner Routine:
• Glute Bridges → 3 sets x 10–12 reps
• Clamshells → 3 sets x 12 reps each side
• Slow and controlled movement
• 3–4 times per week
Focus on:
✔️ Control
✔️ Glute activation
✔️ Knee alignment
✔️ Pain-free movement
Remember: pain does NOT always mean damage, but persistent pain is your body asking for support and better movement patterns.
These exercises can help a lot, but they do NOT replace a Physical Therapist. If your pain is persistent, sharp, worsening, swollen, or limiting your skating, please go see a PT for a proper assessment and rehab plan 🤍

Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift (RDL) 🛼🔥
If you want stronger, more controlled skating… don’t skip your single-leg work.
The Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift is one of the BEST movements for skaters because it directly mimics the balance, control, and unilateral strength you need on wheels.
✨ Why it matters for skating:
* Builds single-leg strength (you’re always pushing off one leg at a time)
* Improves balance & stability, especially on uneven surfaces or transitions
* Strengthens glutes + hamstrings → more powerful strides & jumps
* Enhances ankle stability, reducing risk of injuries
* Teaches control + body awareness, key for tricks, edges, and flow
💪 Recommended sets & reps:
* 3–4 sets per leg
* 8–12 reps (slow and controlled)
* Focus on form > weight (hips square, back straight, controlled descent)

Dumbbell Squats 🏋️♀️✨
No barbell? No problem. You can still build serious strength with Dumbbell Squat.
This is your foundation for power, stability, and endurance on skates.
✨ Why it matters for skating:
* Builds quad + glute strength for stronger pushes and speed
* Improves core stability → better control in transitions and tricks
* Helps with explosiveness (jumps, ramps, quick direction changes)
* Reinforces proper knee tracking + alignment, super important for injury prevention
* Accessible anywhere — perfect if you don’t have a barbell
💪 Recommended sets & reps:
* 3–5 sets
* 8–16 reps
* Go heavier for strength (8–10), lighter for endurance (12–15)

Squats and lunges are very important for roller skating and the skatepark. They build the strength and stability you need to stay low, control your edges, and land tricks safely.
✨ Squats = power
They help you generate speed, pop higher on jumps, and stay solid when dropping into ramps.
✨ Lunges = balance + control
They train each leg individually so you can stabilize, carve smoothly, and handle uneven landings like a pro.
