Cynthia Chang is dumb like a dog dragging their butt across the pavement, but maybe that’s actually smart & resourceful? It’s a good way to scratch an itch, but it’s possible that a good idea is just incidental. The universe is forever orchestrating a funnier joke, rubbing their face in its absurdities. How can Chang compete with a trail of toilet paper stuck to a shoe? Living in a politicized body, humor & play function as survival mechanisms. With a curiosity towards labor, Chang over works their ideas regarding repair & tedium as essential tenets of their practice.
Bea Willemsen is a queer ceramic artist based in Portland, ME. They are self-taught in clay & focus on large handbuilt sculptures in porcelain and earthenware that explore themes of queer identity, home, and foundations of self. Their work plays in the planck space between identity politics & ephemeral memory, dwelling in the tension between the iterations of self & the world around those selves.
Goldfinch Bolton is a nonbinary artist based in Brooklyn NY working primarily in sculpture/installation works. Their work explores ideas of the unconscious boundaries surrounding artwork, what we consider living beings, & introspective tenderness, & occasionally addresses labor rights and environmental issues. Their work incorporates found materials & textiles in a transformative synthesis to create surreal & living sculptures that allow viewers to reflect upon the human condition & the binding neutral miasma that all organic things share.
Crater Powers is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary sculptor from Cape Cod. His practice seeks to materialize the ephemeral experiences of queer nightlife & subculture. Drawing from the visual languages of raves, furries, drag, & internet culture, he explores how shared experiences of marginalization can act as a pathway to connection & allow queer individuals to defy the suppression of their identities.

Drawing from the visual languages of raves, furries, drag, & internet culture, he explores how shared experiences of marginalization can act as a pathway to connection & allow queer individuals to defy the suppression of their identities.

a dinky little stool i made by following a youtube tutorial but the design wasn't structurally sound so i incorporated a scrap piece of steel into the piece. held together by bondage rope and dowel joints. kinky. 🪑🪢 💚🩷

I SMOTHER MY FACE IN THE COVERS, 2022
7'x4'x6'
steel, innerspring from childhood mattress, led lights, chain, velvet, chiffon, felt, minky fabric, polyfil
cant believe i havent posted this one yet. here is a statement i wrote who knows how long ago:
I SMOTHER MY FACE IN THE COVERS functions as an attempt to grapple with my upbringing within a turbulent household shaped by the societal reification of the nuclear family. Being raised in a nuclear family structure afflicted with mental illness created an outward illusion of normalcy by encasing dysfunctionality within the physical walls of the household. The bedroom has traditionally served as a site for my own social isolation while simultaneously being characterized by the omnipresence of normative family structures that often take on a surveilling role.By transforming the private setting of a bedroom into a space that encourages viewer participation, I seek to undermine the isolating nature of the nuclear family dynamic. This piece becomes an homage to chosen family through its open invitation for engagement with the intimacies of private space.

✨CAT LUCK @shopcollarbone
“As a non-binary designer, I strive to create work for all gender expressions that can be worn in a unique and playful way, bringing each wearer in touch with their higher self, true potential, and brilliance. The Crab being I created for this show is inspired by being a double cancer and a sensitive non-binary queer person navigating this binary heteronormative world.”
.
✨Cecelia Plympton @cece_plympton
"This piece incorporates an artifact of my relationship with craft, this web-like silver shape. It comes from intuitive drawings that I would do during my first year of college, when some health issues made it difficult for me to focus on school. Drawing the paths and connections in this shape would visually reinforce my meditations on how I came to the position I was in, and decide how I wanted to continue creating. I use it now to honor the work I did then to make space in my life for a creative practice.”
.
✨Crater Powers @craterverse
“My practice revolves around abstracting the human form as a way of processing my queer embodiment. I’m interested in creating objects that resist hegemonic modes of design that center cis-heteronormative identities and relationships. I explore how shared experiences of ostracization can act as a pathway to connection and can allow queer individuals to defy the suppression of their identities.”
.
✨Danica Drago @danicadrago
"My practice as a tool and object maker is drawn towards investigating my own embodied
experiences of trans/gender expansiveness; through ceramic, metal, and various material
outcomes. This work is part of an ongoing series called Porous Binaries; a wearable visual vernacular of sculptural adornment objects, exploring the reconstruction of ideas and material language around gender, sexuality, and human biology.”
