Sustainable touring shouldn’t cost DJs their careers, and an upcoming report seeks to make this case. Years ago, the Clean Scene study sounded a clear alarm: in 2019, the top 1,000 touring DJs each generated 35 tonnes of CO₂, roughly 17 times the recommended personal carbon budget. So how has the electronic music community responded since then?

The Courts Circuits initiative answers the call to action by piloting a low-carbon artist touring model called ‘short circuits’. A new report by @vibelab_network, produced in collaboration with @technopol_asso, finds that this approach, built around regional anchoring, cooperative networks, and artist well-being, does not require artists to sacrifice their careers. In fact, it may help ease the financial precarity that so often leads to artist burnout.

Following a presentation of the study’s key findings, the discussion « Rethinking Touring & Programming: Collaborative Paths to a Sustainable Future for Artists » will bring three perspectives that together trace a path from individual artist practice to programming strategy and institutional commitment : a sustainability consultant with deep experience advising touring artists, a festival pioneer testing concrete green travel incentives on the ground, and an independent venue booker championing local scene-building.

À l’occasion de sa deuxième tournée, Courts Circuits s’associe au @badaboum.paris pour proposer une rencontre avec les deux artistes accompagnées par le projet jusqu’à maintenant : l’artiste marocaine @vel_musique et l’artiste tunisienne @deena___abdelwahed 🫶

Entre club culture, expérimentations sonores et trajectoires internationales, ces deux artistes partageront leurs pratiques, inspirations et réalités de la scène électronique aujourd’hui. Comment développer un projet artistique dans des conditions soutenables, pour soi, pour les autres, et pour la planète ? Peut-on concilier tournées éco-responsables et circulation internationale ? Comment affirmer un engagement artistique et politique tout en continuant à soutenir les scènes locales ?

Cette discussion est proposée par Courts Circuits, une initiative portée par @technopol_asso en collaboration avec @musicdeclares_france et @djs4ca. Le projet vise à promouvoir l’adoption du slow touring, c’est-à-dire des pratiques de tournées artistiques décarbonées et mutualisées, qui auront lieu entre 2025 et 2028 partout en Europe.

Lauréat de l’Appel à projets Alternatives Vertes, le projet Courts Circuits est financé par le Gouvernement dans le cadre de #France2030, conçu en lien avec le Secrétariat général pour l’investissement et le ministère de la Culture, et opéré par la Banque des Territoires pour le compte de l’État. Le projet bénéficie également du soutien de la Commission européenne à travers son programme LiveMX.

Dans un monde où les DJs passent souvent plus de temps dans les airs que dans le métro, nous sommes heureux·ses de recevoir au club le 4 avril le projet @courtscircuits_, porté par @technopol_asso en collaboration avec @musicdeclares_france et @djs4ca.

Cette initiative explore une autre manière d’organiser les tournées d’artistes. Elle encourage le slow touring, c’est-à-dire des circulations plus sobres et coordonnées entre lieux européens. Le projet imagine des “courts circuitsartistiques” qui relient clubs et festivals dans une logique de coopération et de réduction de l’empreinte carbone.

Pour cette nuit, nous accueillerons @deena___abdelwahed, figure majeure de la scène électronique nord-africaine, dont le travail revisite les héritages musicaux arabes à travers une électronique contemporaine. À ses côtés @simocellmusic, producteur français et fondateur du label @temet.music, reconnu pour ses sets imprévisibles nourris d’UK bass, de dub et de rythmiques syncopées qui déplacent constamment les lignes du clubbing. Enfin @povoasound, producteur parisien à l’approche résolument anti-genre, dont les morceaux mêlent avec aplomb baile funk, electro et pop expé dans une écriture club libre et volontiers indocile.

À ses côtés @simocellmusic, producteur français et fondateur du label @temet.music, reconnu pour ses sets imprévisibles nourris d’UK bass, de dub et de rythmiques syncopées qui déplacent constamment les lignes du clubbing. Enfin @povoasound, producteur parisien à l’approche résolument anti-genre, dont les morceaux mêlent avec aplomb baile funk, electro et pop expé dans une écriture club libre et volontiers indocile.

The initiative focuses on “short-circuit” tours: shared routes between venues, low-carbon transport solutions, and stronger programming of local artists to reduce long-distance travel.

As artist and audience mobility can account for up to 80% of the carbon emissions of an electronic music event, the project aims to rethink how tours are organised. Three pilot tours are planned in the project, alongside workshops for professionals across Europe - like this one.
