Re: Andrew Reed Gallery
For Cornelius Tulloch’s solo presentation at The Armory — opening this Thursday — the artist traces the history of Marronage in connection to the South Florida Everglades and the Saltwater Railroad: a route to liberation that cut through Florida’s west coast and out across Biscayne Bay, carrying freedom seekers to maroon communities in the Caribbean, most often in the Bahamas.
In South Florida, Marronage calls to mind Seminole communities, freedmen, and Black and Afro-Indigenous peoples who sought refuge in the state’s natural landscapes
-building self-sustaining societies within the wild.
This body of work carries the movement and spirit of masquerade traditions such as Junkanoo, along with other African practices that have traveled through these landscapes, bridging the Caribbean and the U.S. South. Along this journey, the piece speaks to movement, migration, history, and deep rootedness in place. It explores the dance between landscapes and cultures, creating a borderland where identity is always in motion, always in flux. The figure merges with the environment, becoming a humanoid form intertwined with the flora and terrain of these territories.
Visit us at booth P31 in the Presents section.

Excited to share that I’m an Artist in Residence at @themomentary and @crystalbridgesmuseumin partnership with @youngartsas a part of their Two x Two Residency. It’s been an amazing week getting settled in. Join us this upcoming Friday, May 29 from 2-4PM for Open Studios at the Momentary.
It’s been great so far getting to make and explore here in Bentonville. So many ideas and inspirations already!
What does it mean to truly observe a place?
In the Everglades, resilience is not abstract. It is lived. It is visible in the way species recover, adapt, and continue. From fire-resilient plants to ancient creatures that have survived across time, the landscape holds knowledge we are still learning how to understand. For artists, this kind of observation becomes a starting point. A way of listening. A way of translating what is already there into new forms of awareness.

Honored to have been commissioned again by the @miamifoundation to create the artwork for their annual State of Black Philanthropy Event. For 2026, I created Diasporic Care, highlighting the multiplicity of blackness that our city showcases. Which will be accompanied by a live performance and installation activation tonight at the Little Haiti Cultural Complex starting from 5pm. For tickets see the Miami Foundation website.
Artwork Description:
How we nourish our bodies within the Black community is a form of care. When we think of that care, we imagine our favorite dish from our grandmother, a neighbor gifting us mangoes, or the smell of the pastries from our local bakery. Our recipes have held our stories from generations to generations. They connect us to the landscapes we call home. Rooted in the Black American story and branching into diasporic narratives, Miami is a multiplicity of Blackness. From the bright colors of neighborhoods to the languages we hear around our communities, our cultures meld to show an array of resilience. This year’s artwork reflects the many plants, fruits, and vegetables that give us a sense of home in our neighborhoods and gardens. The Royal Poinciana’s that line our streets and the coconut, mango, and ackee trees that we protect like gold in our yards, all ground us in a sense of home. A reflection of the diasporic stories that make Miami the city it is today. In the artwork an abundance of colors represent pan african tones, showcasing connections across cultures.
Blackness is not a monolith, and it is our ability to acknowledge the beauty of this multiplicity that makes us stronger. Bridging across cultures, we create a strong urban fabric for the future of our communities to thrive in. With a focus on “love in action” this year’s artwork centers care; how we show it and who we show it to. As we break bread in our communities, we realize just how important our recipes, traditions, and natural remedies are to the story of Black Miami. We recognize how important the Diaspora is forging a sense of belonging and creating affirming space for Black Miami.

In Minor Keys, @madamekoyo @labiennaleleft us with a lot to think about. With so much dialogue surrounding and created by the 61st Biennale I wonder how we move beyond that, to action?
I have the urge to share my all my thoughts, so manny thoughts. But I’mjust going to do, letting myself and my art continue to celebrate, interrogate, speculate, and cultivate the world I imagine.
What makes the Biennale special is in the small moments… running into familiar faces down the streets of Venice, the dinners with strangers who feel like close friends by the end, and laughing and smiling through all 30,000 steps each day lol.

L.A. the right way. Enjoyed every second of this past week in Los Angeles reconnecting with old friends and creating new ones. Grateful for a successful time at @butterartfair and to receive the Cultural Impact Award. To land in a new city and be surrounded by community is a testament to the spaces and values Butter fosters. Most definitely will be back!

L.A. the right way.
