Transmuted Symphony returns tonight at @staattheaterkassel ✨

So touched and a bit nostalgic to see this piece alive again. Composing this music was my first time weaving classical ideas with electronics and synths.. it really sparked something that still fuels me today

So grateful to my love and partner @andreapena__ , whose vision brought my sounds out of the bedroom and onto the stage.

☁️ Turning images into scores

The pipeline flows like this: my Python algo analyzes the image, extracts data into JSON, then maps it into MIDI events. Every note you hear comes from visual data, the sound shaped entirely by the structure of the image

👾 Every edge is a moment
Contours define where the image breaks and where the sound begins. Using cv2.findContours with RETR_TREE, I follow the flow of form, just like the eye does.

👾 Clustering the Chaos
Through DBSCAN, spatial points become clusters, visual masses organized by density. Each one is placed on a 42-second timeline, turning optical weight into musical rhythm. The image doesn’t speak all at once, it unfolds

👾 Brightness = Pitch
Brighter areas in the image produce higher notes.
avg_luminance → pitch
The values are mapped to a C major scale to keep harmonic consistency. Light becomes tone, not by chance, but by design

👾 Visual Impact = Sonic Force
Large clusters hit harder. Velocity is the presence

👾 Drone of the Scene
An average luminance is pulled from the image. One note, held. A drone wraps itself around the details

👾 Time Becomes Music
Each node, each shape, is assigned a time.

The result: a choreography of notes, like the eye scanning the image, now heard instead of seen
