@cinchjeans is one of our most trusted partners, and getting the chance to help tell their 30-year story was something special. We’ve spent a lot of time in the commercial lane lately, so stepping into a short-form documentary and letting the story breathe felt like a reset in the best way.
Blending archived commercial footage with newly shot visuals. Sitting down for real interviews. Finding fresh energy in existing assets. This project is proof that recycling content isn’t cutting corners, it’s smart storytelling when done right.
Great brands evolve. Great content can too. #equinevideo #equinenetwork #enproductions #cinchjeans

I was nervous about this shoot for @cinchjeans . We had put in a ton of time developing our hopes and dreams of what we wanted the final product to be, but ultimately, we had very little control of what would happen and when. The bulk of our shot list was tied to live action rodeo; parts of which can be pre meditated, but wild and chaotic is a fundamental part of the sport. This, along with the scrum of other video teams and photographers we had to jostle with kept my night’s of sleep piss poor.
It’s a great feeling to witness the team and the prep mesh in sweet synchronicity. @mariahhammerschmidt , as always, kept the whole symphony in tune, the circus acts on schedule, and the magic tricks spellbinding. @baron_berndawg crushed operating our long lens setup. Done well, 1000mm, wide open, following horses at full gallop at 300 fps puts thick, luscious coats of hair on your chest. @torypowers unearthed the gems in our 20,000 terabytes of slow motion lens fishing and crafted a beautiful 30 seconds. @jonniesirotek gave it a grit and shine that stadium lighting does not deserve. @electricaudioinc tickled the auditory senses. I also want to give a special thank you to @jessicawahlert at Cinch. Not only was she ring leading the entire Sioux Falls Governor’s Cup rodeo, she quickly and efficiently accommodated all our petty wants and needs. Her capacity for multi-tasking, quite frankly, causes me discomfort. ☺️

The weather gods must have a soft spot for scotch whisky. The Colorado portion of the this shoot was met with a winter wonderland, exactly when we needed it, followed by a blue bird powder day, right on schedule. All in early April. Samples of the product may or may not have bolstered creativity.
The team, of course, took our good fortune and gave it a big squeeze. So much effort goes into these productions before the cameras roll and it is always the difference maker.

Recent DP work for @equinenetworkproductions and Weatherbeeta. Keep those horses warm folks!
Always great working with @mariahhammerschmidt and @kasen_schamaun in the field and @through_the_trees_productions tying it all together.

We’ve been hard at work on what might just be one of our favorite projects every year 🎥
The new Cinch commercial drops soon - until then, here’s a behind-the-scenes look
#cinchjeans #cinch #equinevideo #equinenetwork #cinematography #behindthescenes #equine #video #rodeo

The weekend buzz still hasn’t worn off. I get completely absorbed in projects that spark creativity. Commercials that tell stories, evoke emotions, and connect cultures - making long days and nights away from home worth it.
When asked about what type of projects I typically work on I am often reminded that I have no clear genre that is a focus, which goes against the seemingly sound advice of being a specialist in a field… On the other hand it’s proved to be a reasonable survival technique in a competitive market that’s always fluctuating. Once I stumble through the -documentary/adventure documentary/documenting adventure/corperatey content that’s branded- spiel I always land on, “oh, and horses.”
It catches folks off guard.. even myself at times, but over the course of the last 10 plus years I’ve had the unique opportunity to grow with and learn from some of the best in the equine industry. A not insignificant portion of my year I find myself in all manner of barns, fancy dressage arenas, rolling pastures, belittled by clydesdales, looking at the intricacies of tack, and asking hardened cowboys to move that 1000 pound animal a foot this way … please.
This commercial for Cinch were a good’n. Crazy talented riders, horses, big lights, and a dark Texas night. @mariahhammerschmidt , as she is with many things, was the keystone to this piece. If you ever need to lead a horse to water AND make it drink, Mariah’s your gal. Then, of course, @torypowers made us all look exceedingly clever with the edit. Thanks to @andrewredd_dp, @the_next_texas_legend, and @jonniesirotek for adding the special sauce.

Undoubtably one of the more dramatic mountain locations in the world is the Chamonix region in France. I have never had to physically crane my neck to gain the view of the tops of peaks from the valley floor and that happens in Chamonix. This was a great shoot combining a segment for the Warren Miller Ski film, as well as commercial content for the Helly Hansen clothing brand. While physically demanding, we had a healthy supply of cheese, croissants, quiche lorraine, meat, and of course beer to keep the scales tipping in the positive direction. Here is a night time lapse of the Argentière glacier and surrounding peaks, as well as a few clips from the drone.

Dallas, Texas was our second location in the Texas Tourism campaign. Even just thinking about Dallas I typically sweat through my shirt and undergarments, but we filmed here during the late fall and the weather was exceptional. Visually we had to duck and dodge loads of Christmas decorations, but ultimately Dallas (our Director!) and Brian (our Editor) did a great job of putting together a city centric piece, with a chill vibe. Thank you @ochristine for everything you contributed to the look and feel, you’re awesome to work with!

After a long, hot, smokey day working in South Dakota our crew was treated to this heard of broodmares; getting their frolic on in seemingly endless pastures. I am always a bit tentative following around animals with the drone and inducing a panicked getaway, but these gals were happy to strut their stuff with or without cameras. Thanks to @mariahhammerschmidt for getting us in the right places!
