For the past year, the six of us at @maine.music.alliance have fought to protect Portland’s independent music scene. This week, we became the first city in the country to stop Live Nation, whose proposed venue would have threatened our local music economy.

Being worth $40B doesn’t grant a company free rein to steamroll a city into doing whatever it wants. We proved that a community can defend itself, no matter the size of the threat.
