Sharing a very meaningful moment from our community workshop for the Coquitlam Heritage Society as part of our intergenerational project: Jackson @chienartstudio + Sammy @soar55 led a bilingual workshop on traditional carving print making, started with a guided meditation, completing with a peace prayer for the world. We were so impressed and moved by all the participants’ beautiful work—a perfect way to enter the holidays season!

Happy opening to the Heart of the City Festival 2024!

We want to share a special congrats to Terry Hunter & Savannah Walling, the co-founders/AD of the festival for their retirement. We am so honoured to be part of their last year of the festival. We’ve been talking about this project for years and finally we got to share this in the final year, on the theme of Threads of Connections. We are connecting so many things together, histories, inter-generations, dimensions, revitalization, art forms, digital to tactile, etc.This is a super meaningful year to be sharing this work.

My father Jackson Chien @chienartstudio just completed his 6th I-Ching Eastern calendar (12 year cycles) of 72 year milestone of life, I was hoping to celebrate with him in person in Taiwan, but having to return to Vancouver for an important show on the same day as his bday, I appreciate how he always understands and feel proud of what I’m doing in life. Plus, we got to celebrate earlier during his big retrospective exhibition in Taiwan, where he exhibited over 150 of his paintings and we got to do a fun new media art and live painting collab (as part of @ritualspective) so many old families, relatives and old friends came to share the love. My little present for him is bringing the photographer for Ang Lee, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Tsai Ming Liang & the Oscars in Taiwan (Golden Horse Award) to come take photo for him during our celebration event, so he can finally have a photo along these Taiwanese masters. I wanted to wait until today to share these photos, to celebrate his bday.

Happy birthday to you dad! 生日快樂！

And thank you everyone who came to support the exhibition and event. Thank you everyone for celebrating this online with us.

恭喜我父親剛完成了他人生六紀年的迴轉72年里程碑, 我本來希望親自在台灣與他一起慶祝，但同時必須返回溫哥華做一個重要的演出, 今天是他的生日，我很感激他總是理解並為我所做的事情感到驕傲。 很開心月初我們能他的大型回顧展迴融卯辰展一起先提早慶祝了，展出了他超過150幅的畫作，我們還進行了一場有趣的新媒體藝術和現場繪畫合作，很多老親戚和老朋友都來支持。 最後我送給他的小禮物是給他在我們的慶祝活動中請了李安、侯孝賢、蔡明亮和金馬獎的名攝影師來給他拍照，終於可以給我爸一個大師級的照片。 我想等到今天才分享這些照片，慶祝他的生日。

My father Jackson Chien @chienartstudio just completed his 6th I-Ching Eastern calendar (12 year cycles) of 72 year milestone of life, I was hoping to celebrate with him in person in Taiwan, but having to return to Vancouver for an important show on the same day as his bday, I appreciate how he always understands and feel proud of what I’m doing in life. Plus, we got to celebrate earlier during his big retrospective exhibition in Taiwan, where he exhibited over 150 of his paintings and we got to do a fun new media art and live painting collab (as part of @ritualspective) so many old families, relatives and old friends came to share the love. My little present for him is bringing the photographer for Ang Lee, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, Tsai Ming Liang & the Oscars in Taiwan (Golden Horse Award) to come take photo for him during our celebration event, so he can finally have a photo along these Taiwanese masters. I wanted to wait until today to share these photos, to celebrate his bday.
