【Recap】International Women’s MTB Day 2026
Every year, @nwtrailsisters hosts “International Women’s Mountain Bike Day” at Sandy Ridge Trail System and it was held on May 2nd this year. International Women’s MTB Day is held on the first Saturday of May each year, it was created by the International Mountain Bicycling Association ( @imba_us ) as a day for women to ride, connect, and celebrate mountain biking together.
We always missed the opportunity to participate, sometimes because of rain, other times because it overlapped with our SimWorks California Pop-Up events. But, finally we got involved with this as SimWorks this year.
Rie @charries_cafe wrapped up penning a really thoughtful piece about her recent efforts at getting involved with International Women’s MTB Day.
Pop over to the SimWorks Journal to join Rie for a spotlight on the Northwest Trail Sisters and the great work they do with trail building in the area. (Link in Bio)
As much a celebration of the meaningful work she gets to do with a found and embraced community as a reflection on the value of putting our efforts and resources in to organizations and communities that reciprocate that support. It’s a thoughtful and introspective write-up.
Certainly worthy of a few moments of your time, and maybe it inspires you to seek out a similar organization close to home that might benefit from the labor of your own love.
Thank you so much for trusting us and getting us involved @nwtrailsisters

Rie Sawada - SimWorks: Good People Making Good Things.
An article about Rie @charries_cafe from @simworksusa and the story behind SimWorks has been published on @papersky_official website (Link in Bio)
Please take a few mins to check it out.
“What is SimWorks?”
“Why did you start SimWorks USA in Portland?”
“What does success mean to you?”
These are questions I get asked often, and also questions I keep asking myself again and again.
After traveling together with Shinya Tanaka @kyutai , a founder of SimWorks and the bicycle shop Circles in Nagoya, Japan, I decided to build a home for SimWorks USA in Portland, Oregon, to build a Bridge 「架け橋」 between makers, people, and communities in Japan and the US.
… BETWEEN YOU AND ME 💘
For me, success means being able to connect with people through SimWorks, and seeing those people, everyone involved, living their lives in a healthy way, both mentally and physically, and enjoying each day with a positive mindset. If SimWorks can enrich someone’s life even a little and help create moments of health and happiness, then being able to feel that is, to me, the greatest success of all.
As for SimWorks itself and our community, to never stop creating, learning, and continuing. If we can keep learning, keep creating, keep updating, then I believe that is success.
To maintain curiosity, not fear change, and to have an environment where we can continue to grow, this to me, is what it means to live a truly fulfilled and vibrant life.
When I see things in nature, animals, flowers, landscapes, or experience something, I want more people to experience it too, to see it too, and that’s what makes me want to take photographs or think whether it might be possible to organize a SimWorks bikepacking ride in this place next time.
I hope I can go on more bikepacking trips again this year.
So, we’re planning a SimWorks Bikepacking Overnighter after MADE Show this year again. Stay tuned!!

Sweet memories from exactly a year ago, my first XC skiing in March 2025.
I’ve been looking back some photos lately. So many good memories, so many good photos… but also so many I never posted on here.
Looking back on memories is so important.
Sharing memories and feeling is so important.
I want to keep taking photos and videos for memories.
I remember it was raining so much in Portland on that weekend, but up in the mountains there was so much snow. Just 1 hour 45 minutes away, it felt like a totally different world…like a magical winter wonderland..❄✨️
I always get excited when I’m on the snow. But actually I haven’t really done much snow activity here in this beautiful PNW yet.
I really wanted to start skiing or snowboarding again this year, but sadly we didn’t get much snow in PNW this season..
+ I will be gone to California again next month...🚐🌴

Post Mardi Gras festivities, SIMWORKS IS COMING TO TOWN 🚲🌾
We’re thrilled to host Rie, Masashi, and Steven from SimWorks for their first Louisiana visit. Here’s the lowdown.
Saturday 2/21 — In-store Pop-Up (12–5pm)
Come hang at the shop. Meet the SW crew, see the wares, talk parts, bikes, and riding culture in Louisiana and Japan. We’ll likely continue the festivities at Bayou Beer Garden or Pal’s after we close up.
Sunday 2/22 — Gravel Ride (8:30 meetup, 9:00 roll-out). Come have an espresso from the shop pre-ride. Leaving from Bayou Bikes at 9 am. We’ll go explore some of our favorite marshes, trails, ferry crossings, and backroads. Social pace with a few stops. Likely 40-50 miles. If you’re slightly in doubt, believe in yourself. We do! 🤙

I’m officially a longboarder 💛
One of my 2026 New Year’s resolutions,
Surf more!
Huge thanks to @ellingtonsurfboards for crafting this beauty “Nose Rider” last summer.
I still remember Jim saying over and over,
“I want you to be a better surfer.”
I’ve been surfing over 26 years, but totally out of surfing shape now.. but I think I will be catching more w/ this 💛
Jim has been making handmade custom surfboards since 1976, that means this year marks his 50th!?
Jim watched my surfing on my Insta beforehand and shaped this board with my riding style in mind.
And a BIG thank you to Mia @mmmbolt 💛
You inspired me a lot and gave me the perfect opportunity to pick up my new board in SD. I asked you “Should I rent a longboard?”, and you said “maybe it would be a time for you to get your longboard, and pick up in SD!” Ha! The timing couldn’t have been better, and this board will forever be tied to our greatest memories with you and our beautiful friends.
“Golden Ochre”
Choosing the color was the hardest part.
Somewhere between my favorite mustard yellow, burned orange, and brown?
TODAY, I took this Nose Rider out for my very first longboard session of 2026, OMG it was the BESTEST DAAAY, yaaay!
Sunny, 2-4 ft, no wind, super glassy, clear water conditions. I’ve never ridden countless waves before, but today I caught over 10, and one of them was a super loooong ride! I’m still feeling it. It was just too good. So happy!!
Longboarding is a totally different sport from shortboarding.
I’ve just started practicing walking on the board, but I’m not sure what I’m doing. I need to get my style first 🌊💛

Memorable moments captured on 35mm film + the Happiest Birthday to my love Georgia @georgia_quinny
Georgia loves shooting photos with her film camera, and I just got three rolls of film back from the lab. Looking back at these memories with Georgia and our friends who love her, all captured on film. I love how it turned! cuz of Georgia and her lovely friends, so I wanted to share 🌼
She loves the outdoors. She loves surfing, running, hiking, animals, adventure, exploring, cooking, coffee, Elsa, friends, family, cats, birds, soccer, tea time… and so much more. I’m inspired by all of it, and feeling lucky and so grateful to share in her world.
Georgia gives soooo much love to everyone in her world. You are such a beautiful human. Love you ♥️

2025 was a big year.
Will you keep adventuring with me?
WE SAID YES!!! 💍 結婚しました。
I always dreamed of a heart-pounding cliffside proposal… so I DID IT!
Actually, it was way more scarier than I expected… with videoing this and NO HANDS at the edge of a cliff like this. But yay! We DID IT!
Now the adventure lives on forever~
It’s been a wild ride of learning, growing, laughing, exploring, dreaming, and unpredictable adventures, and I took so many detours to get here.
I still can’t believe I’m married, and I never imagined I would meet my soul mate, my life adventure partner to get to create our life story together.
So grateful for the life we’re building, for the endless laughs, adventures, and memories ahead. David, you are such a beautiful, greatest gift.💛 @mrdlloyd

Memories from my bday weeks with full of favorite activities here so we won’t forget 🌼 2025 has been a year of big life changes, both big gain and big loss. I will keep learning and enjoying updating better chapters of my life!
When I was 30, I was inspired by Kiki from #KikiDeliveryService . If 13 year old Kiki could leave home and start a new life in a new city, I CAN DO IT too! That’s how I ended up living in Berlin for three years.
After my time in Berlin, I finally realized a dream I never gave up on: starting a new life with @simworksusa in 🇺🇸, here I am. To get here, I’d experienced so much hard stuff 💔 but now I feel like I’m approaching to the peak of happiness.💓
This year’s Halloween, I became Kiki, David was Tombo (or Waldo?) and we even won 2nd place at the costume party, the best gift ever! Thanks Nikki @nikkimargarita 🎃🛸
My birthday this year fell on a rainy Tuesday in autumn Portland, just like any other day. @mrdlloyd made a special breakfast and Americano, and later even caught a live crab for me (from the market tank!) 🦀
Three successful weekends of chanterelle mushroom hunting, a wonderful gift from the Earth.🌿🍄🟫✨
Three sunny rides at my favorite place Syncline, did it the most of the features I’d never tried before, overcame my fears, and finished each ride laughing and NO injury, a wonderful gift from the Earth + friends.🌏☀️✨
My heart is overflowing with love. Thank you all for your support, being part of my life, sharing all the happiness, fun, and exciting moments with me!!! 💛🧡💛🧡💛🧡💛🧡

A little dump from highlights of my first time visiting the Tetons and Wyoming.
Finally going through and putting together some photos and videos of our week long road trip from last September !
Wyoming had been on my list for so long, but I never really had any reason or opportunity to go... until David invited it.
It’s his old home and one of his climbing sanctuaries, so he knew all the best spots and hidden corners, and was super familiar with the terrain and the weather too.
There’s always so much I learn from him, about places, about nature, and about pushing limits.
I didn’t even know what “Rappelling” meant before this trip but under David Sensei’s kind patient guidance. OMG, I was so scared! but made my first descent! I often think “What am I doing?”
And seeing a bison napping beside a glacier in Yellowstone... just looked like a painting. 🦬
Also, I’m very pround and admire that David released his own bouldering guidebook for Wyoming last year right after this, collecting all his years of local knowledge and climbing experiences.
If you’ve ever thought about climbing in Wyoming, you should check it out @mrdlloyd . There aren’t many people these days who put together real guidebooks in print.

A summer to remember so we won’t forget ( & so many photos and videos I still had not shared) Summer went by way too fast again this year.💦
Looking back at the very beginning of summer.
Our first time to visit Yosemite !! Visiting in mid May was so perfect, nice temperature and not too busy.
The scenery felt like straight out of MacBook 💻 software wallpapers or being the theme park in the Disneyland or something. The rock walls, boulders, waterfalls and everything was huuuge!
Highly recommend bringing a bike. (Thanks Steven for recommending to bring it and the #vernalfalls hike!)
The views from the bike paths are pretty, waterfalls hiking everywhere, and super chill and easy way to get around〜🚲🌼🌈✨

Thinking back on the magical times of our Overnight Bikepacking trip at Mt. St Helens in July with @mrdlloyd and @dianemlloyd 💕
🌏💫 My favorite place somewhere on this planet !
I’ve been forgetting a lot of things these days, but it feels so good to pause and look back at the breathtaking scenery we shared outside. Grateful and peaceful moments… 🌋✨🌙
We decided on this trip super last minute just two days before leaving, and it turned out to be the exact same dates as last year’s Full Moon Bikepacking at Mt. St Helens, July 19-20! Is that possibleee?! Same weekend, same dates, two years in a row 🌕️ Last year was a Full Moon Ride, though this year it wasn’t.
But instead, we got to chase the sunset, purple blue skies over Mt. St Helens while the sun dipped behind Mt. Adams! Diane and I were trail running, breathless and laughing, chasing the sunset!
Just us camping there (+ a couple of groups), perfect temperature, magical views, and that overwhelming power of nature reminded us once again of how beautiful of life is, and the grateful to be alive. It felt like we were on another planet.
PS. It was Diane’s very first bikepacking trip, and amazing to see her minimalist packing expert move! Everything she brought, her toothpaste, deodorant, everything was tiny, lightweight, and packed onto her bike in a flash. Very impressive!💗
