Since launching in 2020, CSA has been addressing the need for space for arts and cultural organizations. In just a few years, the agency has helped secure 30,000+ square feet of cultural space and raised more than $25 million for projects that center Seattle’s creative communities.

CAST brings its national experience in community-centered cultural real estate to support CSA’s local leadership in building the organizational foundation needed to steward cultural spaces for the long term. The collaboration focuses on increasing transparency and strengthening operational systems and strategic capacity so CSA can continue advancing cultural space projects across Seattle.

Spending time inside spaces like @epacenterarts, the @sobrato_org Center for Nonprofits' Redwood Shores Center, and the Chan Zuckerberg Community Space sparked conversations we keep returning to: What does it mean to build spaces that are truly responsive to community needs? How do we create places that support collaboration, experimentation, and long-term access?

A recurring theme throughout the day was that community spaces are ecosystems. The strongest models weren’t just offering square footage, but investing in relationships, shared resources, cultural programming, and infrastructure that allows organizations and communities to grow together.

We’re grateful to @communityvisionca, Chan Zuckerberg Community Space, @epacenterarts, @centerforcreativitysmc, and all the organizers and participants for creating space for these conversations at a moment when sustaining accessible community infrastructure feels more important than ever.

On April 22, we spent the evening celebrating 125 years of the Geneva Car Barn and Powerhouse. Hosted by @sfheritage, the night featured Woody LaBounty sharing the story of the site’s past, preservation, and future, now captured in his new book, “Geneva Car Barn: The Past and Future of San Francisco’s Geneva Office Building and Powerhouse.”

From surviving the 1906 San Francisco earthquake to ongoing community-led efforts to reimagine the space, it stands as a powerful reminder: preservation means both protecting buildings and making room for what comes next. Today, that future is already taking shape. The Powerhouse has been reactivated as a family-centered arts and culture hub by @performingartsworkshop, which offers free classes and creative programming to thousands of young people each year.

Last Sunday, we hosted a small artist mixer at Sightline. It was our first dip in the water and a chance to start sharing what we’re building with the wider artist community.

We featured local artwork throughout the space as a preview of what’s possible, bringing the vision to life and sparking ideas about how the space can evolve.

People showed up with curiosity, asked thoughtful questions, and started imagining how they might create with us, be supported by this space, and help shape what Sightline becomes. This is the kind of engagement with artists that inspires us—building together to go further, and making something that reflects the communities it’s for.
