Over one inspiring weekend in May, the @centerforcreativitysmc welcomed 16 middle and high school students from 12 schools across San Mateo County came together at the CfC for a weekend of poetry and collage workshops led by @barrioscribe, San Mateo County Poet Laureate, @chloexinc, 2025 California Youth Poet Laureate, and local collage artists.
Join us for "It’s in the Details": a public poetry reading and art showcase featuring original poems and collage artwork created by San Mateo County youth.

Rooted in fairy tale archetypes, the Heroine’s Journey offers a powerful framework for understanding creativity, identity, and the evolving role of the feminine in our world today. Using "Baba Yaga & Vasilisa," Kate Farrell and her facilitators will illuminate the key stages of the journey through dynamic storytelling and discussion, and lead participants in guided writing experiences that engage the themes of the Heroine’s Journey in a personal and creative way.

🎨 Featured Artist: Robin Mullery
Robin Mullery infuses tenderness into the images, objects, and installations she creates. Drawing on her background as a therapist, she probes vulnerability and harm, giving shape to what it means to be in relation with one another. Self-taught in visual art with an MFA in Poetry and an MA in Psychology, she intuits her way to form.
Robin's installation, "Through the Tangles", is currently on view in the Art Window at the Center for Creativity through June 28, 2026.

Susie Peyton’s vision of hosting a Yourh Poetry Collage Workshop at Center for Creativity came to fruition yesterday. San Mateo County Poet Laureate, Antonio Lopez, lead the students students through a series of exercises to get them warmed up to write their own poem using the prompt, “ I am from..” Ca Youth Poet Laureate, Chloe Chou and Emma Peyton also helped guide the 16 high school and middle school students from 13 SMC schools to write their poems. Tomorrow the students will return to create a collage to accompany the poems.
