Still processing how special this week was ✨ So soooo much gratitude to @cheevil and @soho_jan for organising such an incredible writers’ residential for Great Migrations, delivered by @milkteafilms and supported by the @britishfilminstitute 💕 and thank you @boreplace for hosting us at your magical farm with all the lovely food 🍯🥦🧀🍏

To everyone who was there: gosh thank you 🥹 It was such a gift to be surrounded by so many talented writers. The work we all got to read on this retreat was genuinely extraordinary and I feel very lucky to have spent time in a room full of people creating work with so much heart 💫

Now when I met Bruce, I immediately wanted him to be a part of the show and asked him drunkenly on a night out (so on brand for me). Apprehensive at first due to experience, I told himthere are zero roles in the industry for us so WE HAVE TO CREATE OUR OWN ROLES. Without him the show wouldn’t be what it was. This is my director @brucetango . I met him during an ESEA development programme for the BBC @milkteafilms (we love you!) . Now the reality of the industry is that there are very little to none POC/ Asian directors who specialise in comedy in general especially in standup comedy. Adding the layers of understanding the intricacies of being Asian, being undeniably broke all the time, coming from a broken family dynamic and being queer on top, I found myself feeling that I wouldn’t be able to find a director who understands the issues I will face whilst debuting and how to navigate it.
The show really couldn’t be what it was until… BOOM
Now when I met Bruce, I immediately wanted him to be a part of the show and asked him drunkenly on a night out (so on brand for me). Apprehensive at first due to experience, I told himthere are zero roles in the industry for us so WE HAVE TO CREATE OUR OWN ROLES. Without him the show wouldn’t be what it was.
