Independent film making is f*#king hard, guess why...

It's not about talent, it's not about the gear or even the idea.

You can have an incredible story ✓
Amazing crew ✓
All the gear ✓
Passion to tell an important story ✓

But if you haven't got....yep... money, then it's impossible.

It's crude, it's icky and as a Brit I feel crippling cringe just talking about it but, put simply money is the only thing standing in the way of us finishing this film and showing the world this otherwise unseen side to the war in Ukraine.

Why make a film about amputee aid in Ukraine?

When I was interviewed by @therealnihal last week about my upcoming documentary Djakuju, one of the main questions I was asked was - why? Why me, why this story and why now?

Once I saw people crossing the border in 2022 firsthand, the answer was simple.

One grassroots music venue was lost every two weeks in the UK in 2024. More than half of grassroots music venues made no profit at all in 2025. What’s to come in 2026?

Grassroots venues are the pillars of which the UK’s iconic music scene stands upon. Without them, up-and-coming artists don’t get the chance to perform. Music-lovers can’t support their local talent. But with prices rising and funding dwindling, this crucial sector is in trouble.

Broaden backs the underdog.

Our relationship with experimental music from homegrown talent runs deep. From filming sweaty sets at @supersonic_fest in Birmingham, to contemporary classical pieces with @manchestercollective, to hosting our own audiovisual @nightgardenfestival, we are experts in this field.

On that note, behold Broaden’s latest creation: our Psychic Dancehall Hype Reel! Held across multiple venues in Derby, this festival showcased a range of alternative and underground music from top-notch artists. We worked with handheld FX6 cameras and prisms, plus we were joined by Harry and Joe, two student filmmakers from @derbyuni.

Held across multiple venues in Derby, this festival showcased a range of alternative and underground music from top-notch artists. We worked with handheld FX6 cameras and prisms, plus we were joined by Harry and Joe, two student filmmakers from @derbyuni.
