Today's FYC CAFTCAD TLOU Clicker costume piece was featured on the video I posted yesterday for a split second! Scroll through to see.
Sometimes we would receive painted prosthetic pieces sewn on to shirts which we would then have to marry with our mushroom paint job. This time I had a blank canvas to work with and was able to create my own palette!
I didn't get to see the finished product but would love to know what the makeup department did with the mushroom colour!

Sometimes we would receive painted prosthetic pieces sewn on to shirts which we would then have to marry with our mushroom paint job. This time I had a blank canvas to work with and was able to create my own palette!
I didn't get to see the finished product but would love to know what the makeup department did with the mushroom colour!

The first one was the "help me" bandit who first stops Joel and Ellie. I got to do my favorite thing which is blood multiples as this scene involves a lot of stunts and would need backup costumes.
The jackets themselves had already been broken down by another artist but the blood was all me.
Was also on set to add more blood and bullet holes to the dead body of the would-be hijacker on shooting day.
We didn't get to see very much of this guy on camera but I still had a great time doing my thing!

One of my favourite things I got to work on on TLOU was the clickers! These costumes were made in collaboration with the prosthetic makeup department and had to be married seamlessly. Sometimes we would receive the costumes with the prosthetic cordyceps growths already painted. At others, the prosthetics were nude and our colour scheme would inform what the makeup department did.

This was one of my first proud moments on the TLOU breakdown team.
Part of the learning curve was not being able to mix my own colors from scratch. I very rarely work on a team that has pre-mixed color schemes and some of Sage's colours were Wild with names like "sorbet" 🍨🤣
Bright clean pastels like lavender and creamsicle orange might not be your first thought when making things look old and faded, but they WORK!
This jacket started out bright yellow and ended up looking beautiful sun-faded and grungy using the aforementioned pastel mixes!

This was the first piece I broke down on The Last Of Us.
I was excited to show it to Key Breakdown Artist @sagelovett who took a look at it and had me wash it out and start again.
This show was a huge learning curve for me as I'm used to doing things a certain way and working either by myself or on a very small team of only two or three people.
Now I was joining a massive breakdown department that had already been working together for 9 months and had their process down to a science!
The first two days were pretty rough as I tried to get out of my comfort zone and learn a new way of doing breakdown but boy did it pay off!! Everyone on the team was so helpful and gave me tips and tutorials. Let me tell you, when I finally did get the hang of it, what a feeling!!

The Last Of Us Costume Breakdown team has been nominated for a CAFTCAD award!
2 years ago I got a message from my friend asking if I had seen the posting looking for breakdown artists in Alberta. I wasn't actually looking for work at the time and certainly not thinking of traveling as it was still high pandemic times but he convinced me with two words:
"Zombie Apocalypse!"
(Okay so I know they're not technically "zombies"they're actually so much cooler!)
And if the premise of the show weren't enough to sell me, we would also have the chance to meet and work closely with the makeup team possible for game of thrones! How could I say no!!
Next thing you know I was on a plane and spent over a month in Alberta helping a massive breakdown team work tirelessly on the final push push for the show.
I was lucky enough to get to do some blood work both on and off set and was part of the progress of creating the clickers among other iconic looks directly from the game.

As a Breakdown Artist and FX Costumer I often see costumes that I have had a hand in creating on my TV screen. But this past Sunday I got to see not just my costumes, but Myself IN my costume pieces!
For season 14 of Halloween Wars All-Stars I made eyeball earrings for my whole team and leather spider web arm bracers for both myself and cake artist Kyle Miller. I also as supplied the spider brooches worn by me and sugar artist Sarah Arnold.
Despite trying to explain what a breakdown artist is, our team leader called me a Costume Designer on national Tv which was then followed by photos of my Halloween Costumes! 😓🤣🤦 I feel like, breakdown artist is one of the coolest costume jobs out there, but hardly anyone really understands what it is, even when you explain it ad nauseam!

Before it came to me, Sam's jumpsuit had already undergone several levels of breakdown (beautifully executed by Key @madelinebrian ), telling the story of his incarceration/escape in The Woods, journey through the sewer tunnels, and various fights before the bloody wet look in this image, and subsequent dried aftermath.
This kind of story telling us what breakdown is all about!
