Director Ishirō Honda (Godzilla) brought The Human Vapor to the screen for Toho back in 1960, and the classic tokusatsu film is getting a brand new series reboot from Netflix.

All eight episodes of “Human Vapor” will premiere July 2 on Netflix.

In the upcoming series, “The world is shocked when a person suddenly swells and explodes on live television. The culprit behind this unprecedented murder is a man who has been turned into gas: the Human Vapor. He announces and carries out a series of murders.

“The Human Vapor uses the nature of gas to move uninhibited and completely elude identification, each of his bizarre killings escalating a fervor of fear and curiosity across Japan.”

“A legendary Toho film is rebooted with a brand-new story,” Netflix previews. “VFX by the Academy Award-winning team Shirogumi that amazed the world with its work on Godzilla Minus One is combined with an extraordinary sense of scale, represented by grand car chases. A visual experience of a new dimension that far surpasses past Japanese drama series.”

Shinzo Katayama directed “Human Vapor,” written by Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan) and Ryu Yong-jae. This marks the first collaboration between Netflix and Toho Studios.

The rights to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise have gotten complicated over the years, and those complications are largely to blame for Freddy Krueger being as dead as Jason Voorhees since the Elm Street remake back in 2010. Sixteen years later, many filmmakers are hungry to get their hands on Freddy, including Mike Flanagan and Lee Cronin.

Who else would love to take a crack at the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise? Newcomer Curry Barker, whose acclaimed horror movie Obsession debuts in theaters this weekend.

Curry Barker has already been enlisted to direct the next installment in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre film franchise, and he’s hungry to add Freddy Krueger to his resume as well.

Barker tells Polygon, “Obviously, everybody wants to do Nightmare on Elm Street. It’s kind of like the hot thing right now. I don’t even know who has the rights to that or what — I hear that the rights are pretty locked tight for that movie, but man, what a concept that has endless potential of nightmares and how trippy and weird and creepy they could get.”

“I would love to take a crack at that,” Barker adds.

“I know Lee Cronin also just publicly said that he wanted to take a crack at it too,” Curry Barker also notes during his conversation with Polygon. He continues, “So I don’t know, but since you asked, that’s one that I would be excited about — probably a couple more, too.”

Fresh off her Academy Awards win for Weapons, Amy Madigan has joined the cast of Ryan Coogler’s upcoming small screen reboot of “The X-Files” for Hulu, Deadline reports.

Other actors who have signed on for guest roles include Steve Buscemi, Ben Foster, Devery Jacobs, Lochlyn Munro, Tantoo Cardinal, Joel D. Montgrad, and Sofia Grace Clifton.

Previously announced, Himesh Patel (Tenet, Don’t Look Up) will star opposite Danielle Deadwyler (The Woman in the Yard) in Ryan Coogler’s reboot of “The X-Files.”

Sinners filmmaker Ryan Coogler is writing and directing the pilot, which Hulu ordered up back in February. Jennifer Yale (“The Copenhagen Test”) serves as showrunner.

Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler play two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents who form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.

“Some of those episodes, if we do our jobs right, will be really fucking scary,” Ryan Coogler had previously teased. “We’re going to try to make something really great, and make something for the real ‘X-Files’ fans and maybe find some new ones.”

Series creator Chris Carter will executive produce the Hulu reboot.

No word yet on appearances from Gillian Anderson or David Duchovny.

“The X-Files” originally ran for nine seasons between 1993 to 2002, with two additional seasons arriving in 2016 and 2018. 218 episodes were produced in total, along with two feature films: 1998’s The X-Files: Fight the Future and 2008’s The X-Files: I Want to Believe.

Peacock’s upcoming Friday the 13th prequel television series “Crystal Lake” will premiere this Halloween season, the streaming service has announced this morning.

“Crystal Lake” premieres Thursday, October 15 only on Peacock!

Brad Caleb Kane (“IT: Welcome to Derry”) is the showrunner for the series.

Callum Vinson (“Chucky”) is playing young Jason in “Crystal Lake,” which will tell the origin story of the masked slasher who has stalked the grounds of Crystal Lake for decades.

Linda Cardellini stars as Pamela Voorhees, a mother who gave up a singing career to raise her special needs child, only to take a dark turn when she loses her son — Jason.

The show’s cast also includes William Catlett (Abigail), Cameron Scoggins (“Nashville”), Devin Kessler (“Godfather of Harlem”), Gwendolyn Sundstrom, Nick Cordileone (“Warrior”), Joy Suprano (“Fleishman Is in Trouble”), Danielle Kotch (Sinister), Christopher Denham (“Shining Girls”), Nancy Nagrant (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), and Phoenix Parnevik.

The eight-episode series is set to be directed by Michael Lennox (“Derry Girls”), Celine Held & Logan George (Caddo Lake), and Quyen Tran (“The Pitt”).

From A24 and streamer Peacock, “Crystal Lake” will notably be the first official Friday the 13th project since the Platinum Dunes remake of the original classic way back in 2009.
