🖼️ On View: Landscape Plays & Ticket, Tika, Chaap

Dr Bhau Daji Museum presents ‘Landscape Plays’, the first solo exhibition in India by internationally acclaimed artist, composer and theatre-maker, Heiner Goebbels, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan, Mumbai from 15th March to 31st May, 2026.
Goebbels’ works situate contemporary sound within the praxis of performing and visual art through the creation of site-specific immersive installations. Visitors are invited to move beyond passive recognition of sounds and images and actively navigate the interplay of light, sound, and movement. The exhibition moves away from the traditional narrative arc to foreground unfolding events within a play in an indeterminate manner, allowing for a fluid, self reflexive experience rather than a story explicitly told.

Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Mumbai, in collaboration with the Museum of Art & Photography (MAP), Bengaluru, and IMPART presents ‘Ticket Tika Chaap: The Art of the Trademark in Indo-British Textile Trade’ at the Special Project Space, from 1st March to 7th June, 2026. The exhibition is curated by Nathaniel Gaskell and Shrey Maurya.
Bringing intricate and evocative textile tickets into focus, the exhibition explores the new visual language that emerged in the cloth shops that had increasingly begun selling British and Indian mill-made cloth in the bustling bazaars of the 19th and early-20th centuries in India. Glossy, brightly coloured paper labels, bearing elaborate images accompanied each bolt of cloth that arrived from Britain. These labels had many names — textile ticket, shippers’ ticket, tika, tikat, chaap, and mark. Each of these stunning chromolithographed labels served a myriad of purposes.
The textile ticket is a testament to how images shape perception, value, and desire—a story as relevant today as it was over a century ago. Each label carries the weight of trade histories, colonial encounters and global exchange, showing us how deeply art, culture and commerce are connected.
We look forward to your visit!

On the occasion of World Museum Day, May18, 2026, INTACH Greater Mumbai chapter is honoured to share reflections from senior museum professionals across Mumbai on what museums are, and what they can become. We are deeply grateful that so many of our museum colleagues responded to our invitation to share their thoughts and perspectives.
Museums bridge memory and modernity, fostering dialogue, cultural empathy, and shared belonging. In an increasingly fragmented world, they preserve collective histories while engaging diverse communities across generations. At INTACH Mumbai, we believe museums are not only guardians of the past, but also catalysts for a more inclusive, conscious, and culturally connected future. @pheroza @csmvsmumbai @ngma.mumbai @bdlmuseum @mumbai_paradoxmuseum @manibhavanmumbai @sarmaya_india @katyagarwal @rajuldhaimade @art.n.more.art @shailamallik @adildholakia #internationalworldmuseumday #museums #mumbai #quotes #intachgreatermumbai

Visual Vernacular (VV) is a dynamic form of visual storytelling used in deaf culture. It involves expressive body movements and facial expressions to convey complex narratives and emotions, emphasizing dramatic and artistic elements. Unlike traditional sign language, which focuses on factual communication, VV creates vivid, engaging, and multi-dimensional stories.
The performer Soham Gaikwad will be using textile labels from MAP’s collection and perform visual storytelling using the elements present in the label. The performance will be followed by a walkthrough of the exhibition interpreted in Indian Sign Language.
The session is inspired by the ongoing exhibition, ‘Ticket, Tika, Chaap: The Art of the Trademark in Indo-British Textile Trade’. It is presented by the Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum in collaboration with the Museum of Art and Photography, Bengaluru and Impart.
