Over the past two decades, I’ve discovered countless films and directors at this festival, which have profoundly influenced my own work. It’s truly an honor to have my film featured there.

I particularly love the “Currents” section, once known as “Views from the Avant-Garde.” Although the term “avant-garde” has taken quite a beating over the years, I still love Jonas Mekas’ definition of an avant-garde film from 1970:

“An Avant-garde film is always like the first page of a book, and the Academic film is like the last page of a book: one leaves you hanging in time, the other shelves you in time.”
