�Back in 2020, in the middle of the pandemic 🦠, I remember many of us trying to learn something new—something to keep our minds busy, something to bring a bit of order to the everyday.

In my case, I ended up diving into this wonderful invention by Alan Adler: two concentric tubes where you get to play whatever kind of coffee alchemist 🧪 you want to be. With James Hoffmann @jimseven as a mentor—who wouldn’t want that ash-gray hair?—I slowly found my way into this cult.

That curiosity eventually turned into a mantra that, to this day, I practice every morning, almost like a kind of asana.

Last October, the AeroPress celebrated 20 years since its creation and it’s still the perfect synthesis of coffee. No paraphernalia. No giant machines.

This small illustrated and animated tribute is my way of celebrating these two decades.
@vladimirvlek was the one who took on the sound design for this piece—I threw a brick of a brief at him and he came back with pure narrative magic.

Hace unos días, finalmente, la familia tipográfica NoMo Sans salió al mundo.
Lanzar una nueva fuente siempre me emociona. Es más bien la ansiedad o nervios de poder culminar algo en lo que invertiste muchísimo tiempo. Algo que dejaste, volviste, sobre lo cual cambiaste la mirada, retrocediste, y avanzaste. Todo eso en un ida y vuelta que parece infinito… hasta que un día ahí estaba, la luz al final del túnel.

Sí, todo eso puede aplicar a cualquier proceso creativo, pero esa cosa elástica en el tiempo, esa sensación de nunca acabar, es algo particular que encuentro en cada proyecto tipográfico, y que a la vez lo hace especial. Parece gracioso, pero por momentos hasta se siente épico, aunque publicar una fuente sea algo que no le importe importe en absoluto a la inmensa mayoría. Es esa sensación de darle existencia a una manifestación artística (?), y ver qué reacciones despierta en otras personas.
Algo completamente intangible, una pieza de software, pero ahí está. En ebullición, pero breve.

La NoMo Sans es una familia que nace allá por el 2018, como una acotada custom font para un bloque televisivo, y que hoy, llevada a extremos de proporción que no habíamos pensando en su inicio, toma una forma enormemente extrovertida.

En todo ese recorrido, en @yaniguille fuimos devolviéndole la vida al proyecto, y ya hacia la recta final, @amparoguindon ayudó a definir aspectos a nivel sistema que terminaron de darle la personalidad que hoy puede verse.

Para cerrar, el gran @ayer_be nos ayudó, junto a @edu.mott , a crear un increíble universo visual animado. ¡Un lujazo!

Y por último, nuestra fundidora tipográfica del corazón @sudtipos , tomó el proyecto, arregló algunas cositas técnicas, y la hizo parte de su catálogo.

A new voice in the hood!!
NoMo Sans, the witty and expansive super type family, now presents at the Jazz Club!

For this incredible ensemble, we took the stage alongside Juan Martín Ayerbe @ayer_be , one of our very favorite animators!! From Buenos Aires, Argentina, we’ve worked together on beautiful projects, but this was his perfect chance to shine.

Finally, it was the magic of Edu Motta @edu.mott who brought the full set of instruments to this Jazz Bar and composed and performed the soundtrack that drives this entire story.

“NoMo Sans at the Club” may be just a short story, but it flows like jazz—through typography, music, and the quiet magic of teamwork.
